1. NYC’s Newsela, a K-12 instructional content platform for teaching, has raised $100 million in a Series D funding. Franklin Templeton led the round and was joined by Owl Ventures, Tao Capital Partners, Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and Waycross Ventures. Newsela is best known for its leveled reading tool that lets students read content licensed from publishing partners at different reading levels. (www.newsela.com) (EdSurge)

2. NYC’s Compass, a tech-enabled real estate brokerage, has filed to raise $500 million in an Initial Public Offering. The company had $3.7 billion in revenues and $270 million in net losses in 2020. Compass has raised $1.5 billion from investors including SoftBank Group and Dragoneer Investment Group. (www.compass.com) (TechCrunch)

3. NYC’s Electric, an automated IT support platform, has raised $40 million in a Series C funding. Greenspring Associates led the round and was joined by NYC’s Primary Venture Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, GGV Capital, 01 Advisors, Atreides Management and Vintage Investment Partners. Electric provides automated, chat-bot driven, IT support services to enterprise clients with tasks such as setting up an email address or turning on a firewall handled without human intervention. 4. NYC’s Nanit, developer of a smart baby monitor that uses computer vision, has raised $25 million in a Series C financing. GV (Google Ventures) led the round and was joined by Jerusalem Venture Partners, Upfront Ventures, RRE Ventures, and Rho Capital Partners. Nanit’s nursery camera pairs computer vision with specially patterned clothing to track an infant’s breathing without a sensor. (www.nanit.com) (TechCrunch)

5. NYC’s Praxis Labs, a virtual reality-based diversity and inclusion learning platform, has raised $3.2 million in a seed funding round. Investors included SoftBank’s SB Opportunity Fund, Norwest Venture Partners, Emerson Collective, Ulu Ventures, Precursor Ventures and Firework VC. The company’s VR platform is being used to provide diversity training for clients such as Google eBay, Amazon, Google and Uber. (www.praxislabs.org) (AI Authority)

6. NYC’s Industrious, a coworking startup, has raised $200 million from real estate giant CBRE. The investment gives CBRE a 35% stake in Industrious, making it the company’s largest stockholder. As part of the deal, Industrious will take over running CBRE’s Hana co-working venture, which has more than 100 locations in 50 US cities. (www.industriousoffice.com) (PlaceTech)

7. WeWork founder Adam Neumann and SoftBank are reportedly near a settlement of their lawsuit. The terms would include Softbank buying 25% of Neumann's WeWork shares for $480 million, down from the $970 million worth of shares that SoftBank was to purchase. The deal would pave the way for WeWork to be bought by a SPAC, BowX Acquisition. (www.wework.com) (Business Insider)

8. Peekskill’s Dandelion Energy, a geothermal energy startup spun out of Google, has raised $30 million in a Series B funding. Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy Ventures led the round and was joined by GV (Google Ventures), NEA, Lennar Corporation, Collaborative Fund, Building Ventures, Catchlight Ventures and GroundUp. Dandelion has installed about 500 of its geothermal heating and cooling systems in New York and Connecticut. (www.dandelionenergy.com) (GreentechMedia)

9. NJ’s 1Kosmos, a digital identity platform, has emerged from stealth and raised $15 million in a Series A funding. ForgePoint Capital led the round. The company’s platform uses biometrics and blockchain technology to provide passwordless authentication. (www.1kosmos.com) (BusinessWire)

10. NYC’s Marble, a digital wallet and loyalty platform for the insurance industry, has raised $2.5 million in a seed funding round. Investors included IA Capital Group, MS&AD Ventures, Reciprocal Ventures, Fintech Ventures Fund, The Takoma Group and HU Investments.
