“We have to cultivate contentment with what we have. We really don't need much. When you know this, the mind settles down. Cultivate generosity. Delight in giving. Learn to live lightly. In this way, we can begin to transform what is negative into what is positive. This is how we start to grow up.”

― Tenzin Palmo

Dharma Rain Mumbai is pleased to invite you to a live virtual interview with the revered Buddhist nun and teacher, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo.

Uprooting Our Delusions: Wisdom from the Current Times
Saturday, March 20 at 6:00 pm IST

"And once the storm is over you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, in fact, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”

– Haruki Murakami

A year into a full-blown pandemic, some of us were compelled to ask, possibly for the first time in our lives, deep existential questions. But, habituated as we are to our patterns, we also wanted our new normal to be as close to the old normal (if there ever was such a thing as ‘normal’). In the absence of the physical presence of friends, families (at least the ones we wanted around), colleagues, and external distractions, we took to online meetings, yoga and meditation with gusto. We lived on virtual clouds, and soon fatigue set in. We whined about the next meeting reminder, but went for it anyway, shirts on top, pyjamas underneath. The busyness of life and the business of life coalesced and we forgot the whole point of the pandemic. Yes, there was a point to it – just as there is to everything substantial that happens to us. We have been humbled before nature, and gently and indubitably reminded of our interdependence and interconnectedness.

Now, as we take baby steps into reclaiming our sense of normal, nervous, haltering, falling, it is easy to forget what our real intentions were and if the path we have chosen is the ultimate one to help us get there. Sometimes, our paths need lighting up and who better to light it up than teachers who have walked this path and have come out of it ‘lumified’ (word credit: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo).

If you have questions regarding life, or your practice, or navigating prolonged-pandemic-stress, we invite you to send your questions to us by Friday, March 12. Our beloved and revered teacher, Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo will try and address your queries in an interview with us on Saturday March 20, 2021 at 6:00 pm IST.

We look forward to your presence.

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo is one of the first westerners to be ordained as a nun in the Tibetan tradition. She is a brilliant teacher who is able to touch the hearts of many with her presence, her profound understanding of the Dharma, and its relevance and application in daily life. She is also a powerful voice for female Buddhist practitioners.
Jetsunma spent twelve years meditating in a cave in the Himalayas in the Lahaul region of North India, three of which were in solitary retreat. She founded the Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery in the Kangra Valley of Himachal Pradesh, at the behest of her teacher, His Eminence Khamtrul Rinpoche and with the blessings of His Holiness, The Dalai Lama.

THE WAY OF COMPASSION

Join the Compassion Shift
Kick off on Saturday, March 6, 2021

The Compassion Shift is an initiative of the Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics at Emory University, Atlanta to advance a global culture of compassion by scaling its programming to the key areas of healthcare, education, business and social services across the world.

“Just as ripples spread out when a single pebble is dropped into water, the actions of individuals can have far-reaching effects.”– The Dalai Lama
This ripple effect sets a change in motion by creating a wave of personal transformation. It also continues to journey outward, creating interpersonal transformation. Ultimately, the ripple of compassion can shift the world around us into a more compassionate place.
This experience will serve as an introduction to the Compassion Center’s long-standing program CBCT® (Cognitively-Based Compassion Training).
