February Issue Coming Soon!

The February 2021 issue of Light Metal Age is being completed and will be distributed to digital and print subscribers next week.

Focusing on sustainability in the primary aluminum industry, the February issue provides articles on activities in the worldwide smelting industry,  the quest for sustainable aluminum, addressing the SPL waste management challenge, and an overview of the ASI standards revision. The issue also looks at how EGA is harnessing the power of the sun to produce aluminum, an interview with Arnaud de Weert of ALVANCE, and the production of high purity aluminum. 

Additional articles present information on casting performance management, a new R&D center for casting operations, the use of hot form quenching to manufacture automotive components, the IMA's new magnesium life cycle study, and how companies can addresses employee mental health.

The cover shows the DEWA solar park in the UAE (top), the new BMW IX (bottom left), and the BMW casting facility in Germany (bottom right). Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) began producing aluminum using power from the massive solar plant in the UAE. The company has started selling its solar aluminum, with BMW being its first customer. Novelis Affirms Commitment to Automotive

Novelis is continuing its commitment to the automotive market with the introduction of a new high strength alloy for aluminum sheet. It is also expanding its operations in the U.S. and China in order to be able to continue to meet customer demand. 
 
ElvalHalcor Commissions Hot Rolling Mill

ElvalHalcor S.A., part of Viohalco S.A., commissioned its new four-stand tandem hot rolling mill in Oinofyta, Greece. The completion of the hot mill is the first phase of the company’s five-year plan to more than double its flat rolled aluminum products capacity.

Beverage producers continue to face challenges in regards to shortages in aluminum cans. To meed this increased demand and expected future demand, several major aluminum can manufacturers are responding with investments in new facilities.
