BIKI BLAST: FEBRUARY 2021
@waikikisurfstreet, @trimancd13, @eatwithkp
After exceeding 1.3 million Biki rides in 2019, Biki was on track to have another record year. Then, COVID-19 hit our community, followed by abrupt lifestyle changes and a significant decline in ridership. As we review the data from 2020, we can see how the pandemic has changed the way we ride and how we operate.
TOTAL RIDES
2020 brought a 42% reduction in Biki trips and a 50% decrease in Biki riders. Since April, our lowest month on record, we've watched ridership gradually recover as residents return to parks and beaches and resume their weekday commutes. This past year, over 80% of all rides were taken by Oahu residents, compared to 68% in 2019.
STATION POPULARITY
Interestingly enough, the pandemic hasn't really changed which stations are most frequented. Of the top 10, only 3 Biki Stops were not on the list in 2019.
1. 231 Ala Moana - Kapiolani & Keeaumoku (Target)
2. 303 Waikiki - Kalakaua & Niu
3. 320 Waikiki - Seaside & Kuhio
4. 218 Kakaako - Queen & Kamakee (Whole Foods)
5. 518 Diamond Head - Kalakaua & Monsarrat**
6. 236 Ala Moana - Piikoi & Waimanu
7. 244 Ala Moana - Ala Moana Park & Atkinson
8. 204 Kakaako - Auahi & Keawe (SALT)**
9. 321 Waikiki - Seaside & Kalakaua
10. 331 Waikiki - Kalakaua & Paoakalani**

** = new to the top 10 list since COVID-19
AVERAGE TRIP TIME
In 2019, the average trip duration for Biki members was approximately 19 minutes. This increased to 22 minutes in 2020 as more members began using Biki for exercise and recreation, rather than short commutes.

The most popular day of the week to ride has changed from Friday ('17, '18, '19) to Wednesday.
CHANGING OPERATIONS
In an effort to keep our riders safe, the Biki Crew spent an estimated 3,774 hours cleaning and disinfecting equipment from April to January, a 7.5x increase compared to the 2019 monthly average.

79% of Biki Members said they believed Biki was the safest form of public transport during the pandemic.
We want to extend another huge mahalo to our riders, partners and supporters!  We appreciate your patience as we continue to adapt in order to keep Honolulu rolling.
REPORT VANDALISM TO HPD
Unfortunately, there are a few individuals who are severely vandalizing Honolulu's Biki bikes. Recently, such vandalism has cost over $20,000 per month in parts, labor and downtime.

If you witness something, please call the police immediately. And, if you have any tips or photos, please
contact us at 888-340-2454 or support@gobiki.org.

Thank you for helping us keep Biki bikes in the field and functioning properly.

BIKI MEMBER OF THE MONTH
Name & Membership: Joey K., Free Spirit Plan (@joeykatzen)

"I'm not a 'cyclist' in the traditional sense. I don't bike recreationally or have any special gear. I use Biki when it's the most convenient (and affordable) way to get from Point A to B. I really like that I don't have to commit to using a bike in both directions. I can bike out, walk somewhere else, and take an Uber or walk home afterward. I only use my car 1-2 days a week now because of Biki."
