how do you handle opposites?

warm greetings! wow, february has been a butt-kicking month. three of my peripheral family members have passed, friends and acquaintances are anxious and depressed, and mother nature has whipped us into humility, once again.

i was frozen inside my 13' scamp trailer during the south texas storms two weeks ago. it took 2 really good heave-ho shoves to open the door from the inside through 1/4" of ice that sealed the door shut from the outside. like thousands of others, i was without electricity, heat and water for days. thankfully, i was able to carefully drive my car and trailer to eastern texas which was on a different power grid. eastern texas still lost power a few times and we had to boil water for 10 minutes to brush our teeth. and we made it.

i see challenging times, including 45's presidency, as the darkness before the dawn. we cherish what we do by comparing it to what we dislike. we feel relief in warm weather because we're not cold. it's easier to see in the light because we're not in the dark.

in the yoga paradigm, we talk about developing the capacity for holding space for opposites. it's mentioned in foundational texts like the bhagavad gita and the yoga sutras. we also practice feeling opposite sensations in the practice of yoga nidra, aka conscious relaxation. when we are able to experience opposites with equanimity, we're able to be more of our authentic selves in the face of change.

develop your capacity for embracing change and handling opposites with me, sunday nights in march with the practice of yoga nidra. i lead free, 45 minute practices by candlelight via zoom. LYOC - light your own candle, wrap yourself in a comfy blanket, and let's super chill as we develop deep inner awareness. see below for other complimentary yoga practices that i hope benefit you.

also, you can become a sustaining supporter by becoming a patron on my patreon page to help me continue creating free yoga classes, a podcast, an interview series, and more. I also offer private and group sessions from the road. email me for more info. thank you.
