Bible Study & Movie Night!

If you haven't heard the news, Children's Bible Studies will begin meeting in person at the church on Sunday March 14!  It has been almost one year since we have had Bible Study indoors on a Sunday morning and as you can imagine, some things will be different compared to years past.  We need everyone to RSVP for in-person Bible Study so that we make sure classrooms sizes remain small - if we need to add more classes, we will!  Each week you can find the links to RSVP at www.fbc-h.org/reservations. A link to register for Bible Study on March 14 is now available!  Or RSVP by contacting me or the church office. We will meet a little earlier than we have in the past - we'll meet 9:30 - 10:30 AM; this will give us time to transition to worship in-person and/or allow folks time to get home and participate in worship virtually. During Bible Study, we will follow all the same protocols set out by the Leadership Council that we have been following in the Sanctuary for worship (temp checks, mask-wearing, etc.).  Keep your eyes out for more information coming soon. And please let me know if you have any questions.
For families who do not feel ready to come back to in-person Bible Study yet, I will be offering a Bible Study time virtually on Saturday mornings (beginning March 13) - 9-9:30 for preschool ages and 9:30-10 for grade school.

Looking for a chance to get out of the house? Next Saturday, March 6, you’re invited to a come enjoy a family friendly movie from your car on the big blow-up screen at First Baptist Church.  There is no cost to come watch the drive-in movie!  This is a chance for families to get out of the house, do something fun, and fellowship with friends from a distance!  Concessions will be for sale to benefit the World Hunger Fund! We will have tacos, popcorn, candy, and drinks, so this could be dinner and a movie or just snacks and a movie.  At 6:30 pm, cars may begin arriving and concessions will be available; then the movie will begin around 7:00 pm when it is dark enough.   The audio will be transmitted through an FM transmitter to your car radio. Movie Hint: it's a STORY of TOYS that come to life!  :)
Please let me know if you have prayer requests, needs or concerns.

On the journey with you,
Mrs. Jamie Winkler

"So let’s do it—full of belief, confident that we’re presentable inside and out. Let’s keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching." Hebrews 10:25 (The Message)

Confessions of a Children's Minister

During the Ash Wednesday service and Sunday's Worship Service, we were reminded that Lent is a time for self examination, confession and repentance.

On Ash Wednesday, Pastor Stacy mentioned that for the early Christian churches, the 40 days of Lent was a time when those who had separated themselves from the church were reconciled and restored to participation in the church, restored to Cristian community.

I have a confession to make - this past year, living in the midst of the pandemic, there have been times when I have felt tempted to withdraw from participation in the church and times when I gave in to that temptation.

At times I found myself "watching" worship virtually rather than actually engaging and "participating" in worship. At times I didn't join my adult Bible Study because I felt "zoomed out."  There were phone calls that I should have made to check in with people that I didn't make in a timely manner.

Perhaps others of you have also felt separated or removed from the church, whether intentionally or unintentionally.  Let's renew our commitment to participation in our church, to Christian community, to worship, service, and caring relationships.

"We must not quit meeting together, as some are doing. No, we need to keep on encouraging each other. This becomes more and more important as you see the Day [the day of the Lord, when Christ will return] getting closer." Hebrews 10:25 (ERV)
