K-8 Pre-Registration for Next School Year  (Begins March 1st!)
K-8 early registration will take place in early March with all pre-registration forms due by April 15th.  As we have in done in previous years, the registration fee for families that pre-register by the April 15th deadline will be subtracted from total tuition owed for the 2021-2022 school year as a discount.    Pre-registering helps our school begin to make plans for the number of students we will have in each grade level.  It is also important to make sure that a spot is held for your child in the classroom they will be in for next school year.   With our enrollment projected to grow again for next school year, we expect classroom space in most of our rooms to fill up quickly!

Though early registration for preschool has now past as of February 1st, there is still space available two of the three sessions of our 3-year-old and 4-year-old preschool programs.

If you know of anyone who is looking for a great preschool or K-8 classroom for next school year, we would love to have you send them our way!  Word of mouth from our school families to friends, neighbors, and co-workers has always been the most effective way in spreading the word about our school!  We appreciate all of our school families being such great ambassadors for the many blessings of a Christian education available  to students at SPLS!

Lutheran Education Week - March 1-7
Each school year, the first year of March is our annual Lutheran Education Week.  During this week we take time to thank God for all the blessings we have in our Christian school. We also take the time to thank our church congregation members for their support of our school through their offerings.  Our school couldn’t exist without their generous support!  This year Lutheran Education Week will be held from March 1st through March 7th.

During the week we will have special dress up days and other actives in our classrooms that remind us to thank God for the many blessings He provides to us through our Christian school.   As part of a friendly competition during Lutheran Education Week, the classroom with the highest percentage of participation in the dress up days for the whole week will receive a pizza party.  We look forward to the fun of the week ahead!

Kindergarten Round-Up and School Open House - March 20
Each school year, our school hosts an open house and Kindergarten Round-Up event for any families interested in learning more about our K-8 school program.

Due to the challenges brought by COVID, these events will look a little bit different this year.   Our original school calendar lists our Kindergarten Round-Up as scheduled to take place on March 1st.  However, we will be switching the date and typical format for this event.   Rather than having a large event where everyone is invited to our campus simultaneously, we will be hosting a Kindergarten Round Up and School Open House by appointment on Saturday, March 20th.  Families interested in learning more about our K-8 program will be invited to sign up for a time slot to come and visit our school campus. During their visit, families will have the opportunity to take a school tour,  meet with our teachers, and  ask any questions about our school.

Any preschool families interested in Kindergarten for the 2020-2021 school year are invited to sign up for a time slot on that day to learn more about our Kindergarten program for next school year.   In addition, we invite our current school families to consider inviting other families to this event whom they know who may be interested in having their children receive a Christian education at Saint Peter Lutheran School for next school year.  Word of mouth and testimonials from our school families have always been the most effective ways that others have learned about our school.  We appreciate your help in letting others know about us!

More detailed information about the Kindergarten Round-Up and School Open House event as well as a formal invitation will be sent out shortly to all of our school families both as a hard copy and via an email.  Watch for those to come your way!  Please feel free to forward that information on to anyone who may interested!

Enjoy your weekend and blessings on your week!
The K-1 class is very excited that the warmer weather has arrived! We love playing in the snow, but love even more that we can be outside and not be cold.

In phy ed,  we learned to play the game "Spiders and Flies". We loved saying the chant back and forth. "We are the spiders." "We are the flies." "We're gonna catch you." "Just you try. "

This week Mr. Renner and Ms. Peter, who are with us for their literacy clinical at MLC, also taught their first lesson. We love having them with us each Tuesday.

Mousetrap!!!  No, not the game mousetrap!  Mousetraps of the newest design and most original  were created by the third grade students!  What brought these creations about was the reading of the novel, Mouse and the Motorcycle by Beverly Cleary.  As an end of the book activity the boys were asked to make a STEM project in the form of a mousetrap.  D-Con and the well-known mousetrap could not be part of their designs.  The boys really put their creativity to the test and mousetraps came back to school in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors.

Judging took place Thursday, Feb 25 and awards were handed out.  Here are a list of the awards and the winners in each category:

Brennan-  Most decorated
Charlie- most detailed construction

Liam- most killing trap
Lincoln- fastest working trap

Owen- best design
Steven- most inviting to the mouse

Not only did the third grade students receive a certificate they also received a real wooden mousetrap along with 100 Grand! (candy bar, of course)   This definitely was the highlight of our week!

This week in the 4-5 classroom, we finished our book Maniac Magee.  It was a good opportunity to watch the video and do some comparing/contrasting.  We found out that there were many differences between the two.  One point that we discussed is that if you watch the video first, you usually like the video better.  If you read the book, you usually like the book better.  That being said, most of us still say we like books that we read better than the movies made.
We also are continuing to study the brain.  It is interesting how our body sends messages to our brain and vice versus.  Ask your child to race you in grabbing a piece of candy.  I bet they can beat you every time😊.  Today, we will learn more about our brain.  Be ready to be tricked again with what they learn.  Blessings on your weekend!
The 6-8th grade students have been busy doing their research about their chosen topics for their research reports.   We have a wide variety of topics being studied.  All sorts of topics from breeds of dogs, to World War II battles, to wild animals are being studied and learned about by our students.  The students were challenged to pick a topic to study that they were interested in learning more about.  Next week we will be putting together a bibliography of the resources they used for their research, and then we will begin writing our first drafts of the reports.    The students look forward to sharing what they have learned!

We finished our novel, Refugee, this week.  This novel turned out to be the favorite book that we have read so far for many of the students.  The students wrote paragraphs about the new found empathy they have for people of our world who find themselves as refugees.   We reminded ourselves that God loves people of all different cultures, backgrounds, and situations.  Out of love for Jesus who first loved us, we challenged ourselves to show love and compassion for all people as well!    This novel truly reminded us to be thankful for the peace, freedom, and blessings we enjoy as American citizens.
