Victims' Commissioner calls for more rights for victims

The Victims’ Commissioner Dame Vera Baird has released a new report setting out what she wants to see from the UK Government’s new Victims’ Law. The UK Government has said it will consult on victims’ legislation in 2021.

Supporting victims is one of the key priorities in my Police and Crime Plan and I fully agree that new legislation is needed to give victims more rights throughout their criminal justice journey.

I am particularly pleased to see the recommendation for rape victims to be provided with free legal help to stop excessive personal information requests, as we know this can be a barrier to people reporting these crimes.

Youth Question Time

My office is hosting its third Youth Question Time on Monday 1st March from 4pm until 5.30pm.

A panel of professionals from a range of services will be on hand to answer questions on a range of issues, including policing, safe relationships, homelessness, and mental health. This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to put their questions directly to local decision makers.

OPCC receives top transparency award

I am delighted that my office has received the 'Open and Transparent' Quality Mark for the sixth year in a row.

The award is given by Comparing Police and Crime Commissioners, which is an independent national body that monitors police governance. It demonstrates that my team are conducting business openly, transparently, and that key information is made available to residents in an accessible way.

I would like to thank everyone in my team who has helped us to achieve this award.
