The Diocese has today (Friday 26 February) written to all incumbents, Priests in Charge, PCC Secretaries and Rural Deans, providing new advice for Annual Parochial Church Meetings, Vestry Meetings, the Admission of Churchwardens in 2021 and a Parochial Data Audit.

The letter explains that, under the Church Representation Rules 2020, all APCMs should be completed by 31 of May 2021. Where possible, this should be adhered to.

If not possible, a Bishop’s Instrument will be in place to allow an extension of this deadline to 30 June 2021. A Bishop’s Instrument is also in place to allow APCMs (along with other meetings) to be held virtually, using video or phone technology, or a mixture of face to face and virtually. Please follow all necessary COVID guidance at the time of the meetings.

The letter also includes a template agenda for APCMs and Vestry Meetings and a Church Electoral Roll Certificate to be completed and details how the completed Electoral Roll Certificate and details of those elected in APCM/Vestry meetings should be returned to the Diocese.

Pioneering Together!

Richard Passmore, Northern Mission Centre Director, writes:

It has been great to see churches either replicate or adapt their services into the online space during lockdown.

It so encouraging to see how we can all be a little bit more pioneering weather in a Time Honoured or Fresh Expression of church.

One tool that has been developed recently is the Pioneer Spectrum and the image shows how pioneering happens across a range of spaces not just done by a long haired weirdo over there.

I have shared this tool with a deanery Chapter and with the SSMs network both finding it really helpful. If you would like me to come (virtually or in person) to explore the spectrum more in your context do get in touch.
