African American Community Liaison 
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Office of Equity and Inclusion is seeking an individual who will serve as a liaison between the City of Albuquerque and local African American communities and African American owned businesses.  This is a full- time position focused on using and promoting the use of data and equity tools and principles to evaluate policies and practices to eliminate institutional barriers to equity. This individual will be for responsible developing and strengthening relationships with various sectors of local African American communities and planning and implementing programs, in collaboration with other city departments and community partners, designed to increase the City of Albuquerque’s engagement with and responsiveness toward local African American communities.  The African American Community Liaison position reports directly to the Director of the Office of Equity and Inclusion or their designee.
 
PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Develop partnerships between city government, non-profit organizations, educational institutions and grass roots community groups.
  • Develop relationships with community leaders, diverse groups, businesses and philanthropy.
  • Develop and implement programs and activities to increase community engagement.
  • Assist in the recruitment and training of city employees and community volunteers.
  • Conduct outreach and coordinate communication with community, business, and youth leaders in local African American communities.
  • Advise and manage liaison functions among the Office of Equity and Inclusion, City departments, and City program partners with African American community leaders and stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and manage City activities and program participation with the Obama Foundation’s My Brother’s Keeper Alliance New Mexico.
  • Provide input and participate in priority City youth programs and initiatives, including Youth Employment, Mayor’s Youth Council, Youth Connect, and the Kid’s Cabinet.
  • Advise and provide input to the City’s Small Business Resource Advisory Council, Small Business Office, Minority Business Development Center and OneAlbuquerque to increase investment in Black enterprise.
  • Advise and provide input to the City’s Violence Intervention and Restorative Justice programs.
  • Advise and provide input on mitigating the disproportionate impact of the COVID public health crisis on communities of color.
  • Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned by the Director of the Office of Equity and Inclusion
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree in Communications, Liberal Arts or University Studies; and
  • Two (2) years of experience in any of the following areas: communications, community outreach, and/or community relations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A strong leadership background in developing policy recommendations and planning and managing programs that aim to improve outcomes in local African American communities.
  • An innovative and strategic thinker with deep knowledge of African American history and current affairs and a strong commitment to strengthening local African American communities.
  • Ability to work across diverse communities and build strong partnerships, with experience in community organizing and working across public and private sectors.
  • Demonstrated experience in growing organizations, managing staff and building strong teams
  • Excellent communication, writing and public speaking/presentation skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Education, Sociology, Liberal Arts, University Studies or a related field preferred.
