A Message from Rev. Bob

Dear Grace and St Peter's,

Thank you to all who stopped by the Brewster Room on Thursday evening to pay last respects to Rick Iglio and to offer your condolences to his friend and companion of many years Frank Rubertone. Thanks, too, to those who remained for, and contributed, to Rick's memorial service in our side chapel.  Your presence, care and support are greatly appreciated.

Thanks, as well, to all those who attended our racial justice gathering on Monday.  We had an inspiring conversation with Melissa Atterberry-Jones, founder and director of The Village, the new community center for youth in Hamden.  Melissa has exciting hopes and plans for her project and together we began to imagine ways that Grace and St Peter's can support her efforts and help to develop this promising ministry.  Last October, NBC CT ran a profile of Melissa and her vision for The Village.  You  may access the video and article HERE.

Next Monday, March 1st, our Jesus' Kingship of Kinship group will meet again.  This time, our guest will be Alden Woodcock, the director of EMERGE, Connecticut (https://emergect.net), an organization that offers vocational and life skills training to men and women recently released from incarceration.  Alden's program is tremendously successful at helping folks to reintegrate into society and we look forward to learning more about this important work.  Please join us at 7PM for casual conversation or at 7:15PM for our discussion with Alden.  I will send out a zoom link on Monday.

Meanwhile, we continue to offer prayers for Cindy Turner's son-in-law, Bob, who died last weekend and for Cindy and her daughter Judy and their entire family.  We will provide information about Bob's funeral shortly.  Sadly, we also offer prayers for long time Dinner for a Dollar community member, Richard Najarian, who died Thursday morning, for his wife, Maureen and for their family.  On Monday, March 1st a visitation and funeral service will take place at the North Haven Funeral Home.  Visiting hours will be from 9AM-11AM, followed by Richard's funeral service at 11AM and interment at All Saints Cemetery in North Haven.

Peace,
Bob+

Not to late to join!

Becoming a Trauma Informed Beloved Community
Martin Luther King, Jr. invites us to become a Beloved Community, a society based on justice, equal opportunity, and love of one's fellow human beings. Trauma, and especially racialized trauma, gets in the way. This Lenten Study group will explore what the beloved community is, what trauma is, what racialized trauma is, and how we can work on becoming a trauma-informed beloved community.

The Lenten Study will take place during Thursday evenings of Lent from 7 – 8 p.m. on Zoom. While this study group is being hosted by GRACE EPISCOPAL CHURCH, Hartford, members of other faith communities and anti-racist groups have been invited to attend.

Donate to G&SP Black History Scholarships
Last year, we supported two Reverend Pauli Murray college scholarships (named in honor of our Episcopal parish), one for $1000 and one for $500, to deserving Hamden High School graduates.  This year, we hope to do at least as well.  Dinner for a Dollar and the Rector's Discretionary Fund will each contribute $500.  We hope to raise $500 or more from the parish to add to that.  For those of you who may have found my “give up/give to, two-for-one Lenten challenge” idea from Wednesday’s sermon compelling, this would be a great place to donate your no-more-chocolate-no-more-coffee-less-time-on-facebook dollars!

To donate, you may mail a check to Grace and St. Peter's with 'scholarship' in the memo portion of the check, or use the donate button on our graceandstpeters.org website.  For those using the website, a follow up email to the parish office notifying of the donation would be appreciated, as the program does not allow you to designate the intent of the donation.
