Reading A Morning Prayer Mike Stone, reader
how shall we pray this morning?
during this day, God of our lives,
we would long to find someone
with whom we can share
our weary souls, to tell
of those fears which dog us,
those worries which weigh us down,
those dreams which turned into nightmares.
so, as we search for this soul-listener,
may we be that someone for another.
how shall we pray this morning?
as we move through this day,
Jesus who promises to walk with us,
we hope for that companion
who shares the same passion
for justice which fills our hearts,
who sees grace as a gift not to hoard
but to be shared with everyone we meet,
who refuses to let hopeless be part
of their vocabulary, just as you taught us.
may we be that companion for another.
how shall we pray this morning?
as we live this day, Spirit of love
we listen for that voice which
whispers intimations of joy in our hearts,
who will teach us new songs
of peace and reconciliation in all the brokenness,
who tells those old, old stories
of community, of hospitality, of kindness, which
we need to hear anew in these moments.
so, as we keep our ears, our hearts, our souls
open so we do not miss a word,
may we be the voice another needs this day.
how shall we pray this morning?
we pray this morning
for voices, for companions, for listening,
for that is how you come to us,
God in Community, Holy in One. Amen.

For nearly 30 years, Kirk Franklin has been widely regarded for revolutionizing gospel. He incorporated secular music, particularly hip-hop, while preserving the message and integrity of traditional gospel. Link below is a video of him and his powerhouse choir singing four songs from their sixteen Grammy award winning discography of faith, praise and encouragement, including the opening song from today “Love Theory.”
