Our Amazing Agency Partners
A bag order on its way to Centro Latino Americano
We love what we do at Bags of Love, but it’s also tough to remember that behind every bag is a story of poverty, abuse, neglect, or homelessness. These are challenges no child should have to face, and it’s heartbreaking to know that so many in our community are struggling.

However, one of the bright spots of our work is recognizing that Bags of Love truly does make a difference. Our cooperative relationships with over 65 regional agency partners allow us to support the folks on the front lines working to keep local kids safe and supported. These partners help us identify children at risk or in crisis and ensure each bag makes it into the arms of a child in need. Our interactions with these nonprofits, government offices, and school district locations make it clear to us that our community is full of amazing people and organizations working to make kids' lives better.

We’d like to share some feedback we received recently from one of our incredible partners: Bree Hagerman, a counselor at Willamette High School.

Bags of Love is an incredible resource that goes beyond distributing clothing to families in need. It is easy to see that every bag is packed with love and attention to detail. I am a counselor at a high school, and delivering these bags to students has been the highlight of my school year in online learning. The staff at Bags of Love has been incredible to work with and they go above and beyond to help however they can. There is a lot of heart that goes into each duffle bag, and families are positively overwhelmed by the amount of clothing, other goodies, and adorable stuffed animal included. This organization is fantastic and brings humanity back to serving families in need.

Working with caring and dedicated people like Bree reinforces one of Bags of Love’s founding principles: The conviction that, by working together, we can make a real difference to the kids who need us most.
Emerald Valley Quilters Sew for a Cause
EVQ's Marilyn Collis dropping off the latest quilt donation
For more than a decade, the fabric artists and sewing-machine maestros at Emerald Valley Quilters have donated their time and talents to support Bags of Love. In that time, hundreds of local children in need have received lovingly handcrafted quilts and “EVQ Bears.” These soft bears are just the right size for the youngest children, and because they have none of the buttons or choking hazards that can be found on commercial stuffed animals, they’ve been a staple of our bags for infants for years.

Since EVQ’s founding in 1992, members have given more than 16,000 bears to kids through local organizations, and have provided quilts to nonprofits like Bags of Love, the Eugene Mission, Quilts of Hope (the PeaceHealth NICU), ShelterCare, and Looking Glass.

In 2020, despite the pandemic, EVQ made multiple deliveries to Bags of Love, bringing us 55 quilts and hundreds of colorful bears. COVID-19 hasn’t dimmed these sewers’ passion: The sewing groups and workshops the guild formerly offered in person are now conducted via Zoom. If you’re a quilter interested in getting involved with EVQ, you can find more information online here

We are so grateful to benefit from the creatviity and generosity of EVQ’s members!

Volunteer of the Month
This month's standout volunteer is Marilyn Koenig, who began volunteering in early 2020. She creates lovely quilts, donates to BOL, and also helps out two days a week in the warehouse. As a retired teacher, she has wonderful insight into what  children want and need!
