Dear <<First Name>>,

Training modules starting!

Q: What’s more exciting than getting back into training modules after a year of COVID?
A: Opening up a new village to our training modules. On February 16-20, we held a four-day Bible study on “The Holy Spirit” in Gulkana, Alaska.

Q: What’s more exciting than being in a new village?
A: Having the largest turn-out for any of our training modules ever! Our first night saw 17 participants gather for a meal and introductions. Throughout the week, we had a few that had to work and could come only part of the time, but approximately 20 people participated overall.

Besides being in a new village with a large turn-out, our recent training module in Gulkana brought about some exciting results. During our breaks, some of the men picked up their guitars and started spontaneous sing-alongs. Someone had the idea, “Why don’t we have a sing on Friday evening, and invite the community?” So we did. It was a great evening of songs and testimonies about God’s work in people’s lives. It lasted about four hours! After the sing, the pastor of the fellowship told us that they haven’t met since August due to COVID. They decided that they would start having services again, starting that Sunday! We were also invited to Copper Center (about 30 miles down the road) to provide a training module on “The Life of Christ,” March 16-20.

Grayling language classes/resources

Our first trimester of Holikachuk classes was a learning curve. On March 1, we will continue language learning with about 7 middle school students who want to keep learning the language. Please pray as we try to make this a more effective, organized language class. James talked with the new incoming middle school teacher who will be running the class. She said that she is a “Baptist from Oklahoma.” We are thankful to have another Christian teacher in the village.

Shannon and the kids worked hard to design, order, and package some physical flashcards for the language class. When they were ready to ship, our friend Karl “happened” to be flying that direction. He delivered them this last Monday, and the class was able to dig through the boxes and start putting the flashcards to use right away.
(Blog post/photojournal, which includes a link to a video of the cards with the Holikachuk pronunciation audio.)

Ministry of opportunity

We just returned from an overnight trip to Anchorage for dental appointments. We are thankful that while we were there, God allowed us to use a good amount of the time to reach out to our Native friends. Pray for some who are struggling with health and marriage problems.

To the praise of His glory,

James and Shannon and family
