UCLG ASPAC Council Meeting 2021:
Kicking Off The New Chapter

   

25 February 2021 | UCLG ASPAC held the Council Meeting 2021 in hybrid mode attended by hundreds of local governments and representatives from cities, local governments and associations in Indonesia (onsite) and within the Asia-Pacific sub-region (online). The meeting was organised as a response to the postponement of UCLG ASPAC Congress that was planned to be held in Zhengzhou 24-28 April 2021 due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. Discussion held in this meeting marked the new chapter of the organisation as it elected the new Governing Body (President, Co-Presidents), Council and Executive Bureau members, discussed the UCLG ASPAC Manifesto 2021-2025, the work plan 2021, approved new member, and other essential matters. Click
Asia-Pacific Perspective in the UCLG Retreat and Campus


15-22 February 2021 | UCLG World held a retreat and campus taking theme “A Global Community that Cares.” For the first time, the event was organised virtually laying out how the organisation would act as a global community that work and care for the people, planet, and government. Represented by Secretary General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, UCLG ASPAC, the largest regional section of UCLG, showcased the organisation’s strategic plan for five years 2021-2025. Click
Daejeon's "Mind Talk Talk" Bus: Supporting Citizen's Mental Health 
 


DAEJEON Metropolitan City puts special attention on its people’s mental health. To ensure people can easily reach out for mental support, the city started the operation of “Mind Talk Talk Bus,”a service for psychological support, along with the “Daejeon Regional Mental Health Welfare Centre.” This is also a response of the city not only to pandemic that raises the attention to the mental health, but also to the Epidemiological Survey of Psychiatric Illnesses in Korea in 2016. Click
Gunsan: Putting People First in Running Renewable Energy Programmes

 

RESPONDING to the global climate change crisis, city of Gunsan announced its ambition to run renewable energy programmes together with people in 2021. Gunsan also sets plan to promote various policies and development projects on Saemangeum more systematically to ensure public are well informed. To overcome the climate change crisis, city of Gunsan pursues diverse and sustainable energy policies. To make a flexible transition to a carbon-neutral era, Gunsan plays a role as a leading city in Saemangeum, the centre of carbon neutrality and the Korean-style Green New Deal. Click

2021 Cheongju Craft Biennale: The World's First and High Level Craft Exhibition


8 September – 17 October 2021 | Cheongju – The 2021 Cheongju Craft Biennale, the world's first and the most significant event in the world of crafts and an international exhibition representing craft cities around the world will be held from September 8 to October 17 this year in the Culture Factory and nearby areas in Cheongju. Despite the Covid-19, it is expected that about 1,000 artists from 40 different countries are to participate in the 2021 Cheongju Craft Biennale. Since its first edition in 1999, the event has introduced all genres of craft such as ceramics, woodcraft, textile and metalcraft of Korea and abroad every two years. Click
Looking Closer to Civil Service Police Unit of Pontianak and Contribution to SDGs Localisation 



UCLG ASPAC and Raoul Wallenberg Institute (RWI) collaborative programme on Blended Learning Course (BLC) for Local Governments has reached out wide areas of role and function in the local government structure. This is a positive signal, as the SDGs localisation does need collaborative efforts from all sectors and levels. One of the good examples was shown by city of Pontianak, capital of West Kalimantan Province in Indonesia. Click
Rethinking Local Government Budget Management for COVID-19 Response and SDGs Achievement: Indonesia's Case


 

TO address the challenge faced by local governments in Indonesia in the management and prioritisation of local budget during pandemic, UCLG ASPAC and APEKSI’s collaborative programme, LOCALISE SDGs has engaged the Indonesian Regional Autonomy Monitoring Committee (KPPOD) and produced research and policy recommendations for insights to local leaders. This research was conducted with the support from the European Union (EU). Click 
Linking Cities' Needs with Partners' Capacities: For Inclusive and Resilient Cities 
 



 

February 2021 | Jakarta – UCLG ASPAC and the European Union (EU) collaborative programme on Climate Resilient and Inclusive Cities (CRIC) ensured cities’ needs for inclusive and climate resilient goal achieved by linking them with the right partners. It was conducted through a five-day Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in thematic sectors from 1 to 4 February and 11 February 2021. The FGD was held as a follow-up action after the Urban Analysis Report (UAR) publication in 2020. The report altogether with the result of FGD provides basis for tool development to help pilot cities to solve their climate challenges in three priority sectors: waste management, water and sanitation, and early warning system (EWS). SDGs Localisation: Science, Technology, and Innovation Based  Ways Forward


 

19 February 2021 | THE United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) CIFAL Jeju organised a webinar on "Localisation of the SDGs: Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI)-based Ways Forward." UCLG ASPAC was invited as one of resource persons together with the Green Climate Fund (GCF), and United Nation Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). There were 20 registered participants of eight countries coming from various types of organisation including governments at national, state, and local leaders, international organisations, non-government organisations (NGO), and academia. PUBLICATION


 
UCLG ASPAC Annual Report 2020 is out. Taking theme "Sharpen the Focus, Embrace the New Hope," the publication recorded the milestones that the organisation achieved in 2020 as well as contributions to cities, local governments, associations, and even to global community.
