MADE IN MAYFLOWER
Made In Mayflower | Together We Can... Make Music in Unconventional Ways | 1st March 2021

This week's #madeinmayflower Music Newsletter is all about creating music in unconventional ways.

Music is often seen as an expensive hobby, but actually with a little imagination, inspiration and time, you'll be surprised at what you can create.

In this video, OAE Horn player Martin Lawrence demonstrates how to make a working horn using just a hosepipe and a few other household bits. This video is an easy to follow guide on how to make your own French horn at home... You really can do it!

There are a whole host of instructional videos on the Youtube on how you can make your very own DIY musical instrument.

Learn to drum from home with the amazing, Nandi Bushell.
You may not recognise the name, Nandi Bushell but you will likely recognise her from the Argos Christmas adverts. Nandi is the young drummer who drums the Simple Minds song, Don't You Forget About Me in the Argos Christmas advert.

Having gained YouTube fame, Nandi is now providing drum lessons at home, using a HOMEMADE drum kit. Yes, that's right! Everything thing she drums on can be found in your house.

Watch the series of videos below to learn how to drum at home using your homemade drum kit.

Step up

ATTENDANCE for all is a must. Pupils who are on time and are fully engaged, make more progress. They go on to have better life choices. Step up to the mark.
Using digital audio.
This track was composed using only digital audio... that's music created solely on a computer.

With a basic knowledge of digital audio, loops and a few
keyboard skills - you could create something similar too.

We all need to escape sometimes.
Here's your chance to feel the magic of music first-hand and enjoy learning to sing new songs from the comfort of your own home.

During lockdown, I will be releasing a new #songaday every weekday for the whole family to enjoy. This an opportunity for the entire family to get involved! So, grab those hairbrushes, dance around the living room and lighten up your day with a song.

Over the half-term break, I will be uploading earlier archived videos that you have missed. Be sure to follow @ryanjenkinsMCA on Twitter to get your daily dose of #songaday goodness.
The MCA Lip-Sync Battle
We could all do with a bit of cheering up during lockdown and you could be the family to make us smile!

Our chair of governors, David Walters would like you to create a fun, creative and engaging 'lip-sync' video of one of the #SongADay songs. It's all about having fun with music and creating engaging performances. Make costumes, craft a performance, do a family dance - it's entirely up to you.

And yes, there will be prizes for the best entries!
Watch the video below for inspiration.

Learn A Musical Instrument with Charanga Music World
Charanga is an award-winning online music platform that enables children to engage in musical learning from their own home. Charanga hosts a plethora of musical activities from exploring music theory to taking first steps in learning a musical instrument.

All Mayflower children have access to Charanga. If you re-require your child's login, please email school.office@mayfloweracademy.co.uk.

Watch the short video below to discover how Charanga could enhance your child's musical experiences.
Can I Hire A Musical Instrument?
Absolutely! We know that young children want to explore musical instruments but parents don't want to have to spend large amounts of money on instruments a child might play a few times then decide they no longer like the instrument... (I'm talking from personal experience here).

Fortunately, there are several places from which you can hire a musical instrument, and in some cases swap it for a different instrument if your child wants to explore another instrument. Click the link below to find out more.

Focus

ATTENTION and focus are key learning behaviours that pupils are taught. Pupils learn how to organise their ideas, accelerate progress and achieve the highest standards.
Share your learning.
Over the course of this term, your child's musical learning will be exhibited here. Encourage your child to share their musical learning and encourage them to be brave.

No artist has ever made an impact by keeping their talent to themselves.
Empower

DEVELOPING the talents and interests of our pupils and their families sits at the heart of our ‘Together we can…’ ethos. Empowerment fuels improvement for all.
Music That Makes Me... Me!
Adam Lambert - Believe (Cher Cover)
Cher's 'Believe' like you've never heard it before!

I like to consider Adam Lambert as a singer's singer! This man has the most incredible voice, so much so that he has replaced Freddie Mercury as the current lead singer for Queen when they tour.

Since 2009, Lambert has sold over 3 million albums and 5 million singles worldwide. Lambert rose to fame in 2009 after finishing as runner-up on the eighth season of American Idol... You won't believe he was the runner-up after listening to this!

Remote Learning has its benefits, but long days of screen time is not one of them. So what do we do to counter this?

This brilliant video highlights and shares the importance of screen breaks in order to balance the day. Class Teachers have very carefully managed your remote timetables to ensure you have plenty of opportunities for rest, fresh air and exercise. It is very important that you take full advantage of these breaks to stand up and stretch. Thank you very much to Mr White for making such a fantastic and useful film.
