CLOK's skill base - Request for help

If you haven’t already received a request by email, then one should be dropping into your mailbox in the coming days. To summarise, the CLOK Committee is in the process of reviewing the club's skill base, in particular the number of CLOK members who hold British Orienteering recognised licences and qualifications. To support that work we are asking each member to do two things:
  1. Review the list of your specific licences / qualifications, which will be sent to you individually.
  2. Please have a look through the overall list of qualifications / courses that will be sent and let me know if there are any that you'd be interested in obtaining. Where there's sufficient interest, the CLOK Committee will look into the possibility of organising the relevant courses in our area.
More detail will be available in an e-mail soon, or please contact me if you have any questions.

Many thanks,
Graeme Addison (email)
CLOK Membership Secretary

When will normal orienteering return??

The Government published its roadmap last week for the gradual easing of lockdown restrictions in England. Hopefully from 29 March formally organised outdoor sports such as orienteering can restart, and will not be subject to the gathering limits, but should be compliant with guidance issued by national governing bodies. The CLOK Committee are busy working out what this means for our schedule of events (and we have plenty of pre-planned courses waiting to go!). Sadly it seems very unlikely the Sneaton / Pickering "not the JK" races can go ahead, since - although they are after the initial date above - we need to get Forestry England permissions which are unlikely to be forthcoming so soon. But other events may be possible in the not too distant future - watch this space!

Lockdown orienteering

  • MapRun courses - See our Virtual Orienteering Courses (VOCs) here.
  • Virtual Running Routes - Similar to regular VOCs, but the app also displays your current position and route so far. See our VRRs here.
  • Lamp O challenges - From November / December, with control points at lamp posts. See the list of challenges here.
