Township Updates

Mendham Township is in the process of converting a portion of the former Pitney Farm into a public park. Part of this project includes restoring the “Walled Garden,” which was created in 1930. This is one of the few remaining walled gardens in New Jersey and all that remains of the property's famous gardens, which were included in the Archives of American Gardens at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C. We are looking for volunteers to restore this magnificent garden back to its original condition. Work will begin on Tuesday, April 6, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m., and will continue every Tuesday until the Fall. If interested in volunteering and for more details please contact Bill Moran at 973-219-8989. Thank you!

Pet Post - A friendly reminder to please keep dogs leashed when walking on trails or roadways, and make sure to pick up any pet waste as well. Help keep our community clean!

Township News Page - There are updates posted on the Mendham Township
News & Announcements page. Please take a look for news there on a regular basis.

Police Updates

Road Closure - Mountainside Road between Calais Road and Ironia Road is closed and will be for the next few months. Please allow extra time, while traveling along that route. There is also a temporary light in place at Ironia Road and Route 24.

Stay Safe on Frozen Ponds - Spring is around the corner. With fluctuating temperatures and melting, please stay off any ponds or lakes, unless skating is permitted. And, do not allow dogs to run onto the ice. Please keep your family and pets safe.

Vacation Check-Ins - Going away for Spring Break or just to get away? Register your house with the police department, and your vacant home will be checked periodically, giving you peace of mind while you are away. Call the police non-emergency number at 973-543-2581.

Report Suspicious Activity - If you see something, report it immediately. And, lock your cars to prevent theft.

Follow the Police - Please follow the police department on Facebook, Instagram and/or Twitter for updates, including severe weather alerts, upcoming programs and other important information.

Fire Department Updates

Outdoor Fire Safety - Our state's greatest danger of wildfires occurs during the Spring and the Fall because trees are bare, sunlight reaches the ground and dries the leaf litter on the forest floor. Winds during this time can be strong and dry, creating a deep, fluffy layer of hazardous forest fuels. All it needs is an ignition source to spark these fuels, creating a devastating wildfire, threatening property and lives. The Ralston Engine Co. #1 reminds us to be careful in the use of outdoor fires. Wildfires can be prevented by being careful with the use of fire. Read more.

Time to Change Your Alarm Batteries - Smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms are key parts of a home fire escape plan. Smoke alarms should be installed inside every sleeping room, outside each separate sleeping area and on every level. Replace all smoke alarms when they are 10 years old, and change your batteries when you change your clock for Daylight Savings Time on Saturday, March 14.

Volunteer! - The Ralston Engine Co. #1 needs more residents to join their all-volunteer fire company. Please visit their Website to learn more.

Environmental Commission
Recycling 101 on Mendham TV - Did you know? You don't need to remove staples from paper or rip off labels from cans. However, you should remove cords from paper shopping bags before recycling them.

These were just some of the questions answered during the recent Recycling Webinar featuring representatives of the Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA).

The Lunch & Learn featured an overview of the township's new recycling program and answered questions about what to recycle and what to throw out. This program was co-hosted by Committeewoman Amalia Duarte and Martin Slayne, Chair of the Environmental Commission.

You can now watch the Webinar on Mendham TV.
