A Message From the High School Coordinator

Come see the Difference for Yourself!

Our annual High School Expo will be held on Monday, 8 March, and I really hope that everyone can come along and see some of the amazing work done by our students.
Our High School Expo is obviously an important event for us to be able to promote the school to prospective students and families, however it is also a fantastic celebration of student...

We Need Your Help!
Do you have any steel cans or unwanted objects made from aluminium???
This year's theme for Waste to Art is Aluminium and Steel cans, so...
If you have any:
  • Empty tins cans (soup, pet food, milo tins etc)
  • Lids from Jars
  • Bottle tops (these would be great)
  • Any old unwanted cutlery - spoons, forks...
  • Any unwanted objects made of steel or aluminium - pie tins, springs, washers, nuts/bolts.....
Please send them to Mrs King in room B8.
Thank you so much for your help and support. I'm looking forward to seeing what the kids can create with all these bits and pieces.

Year 5 and 6 Drama
In Drama this term Stage 3 has been focusing on Miming.  A mime in drama is creating the illusion of objects around you with the use of body language and facial expressions without the use of speech. All the students were actively involved and couldn't wait to perform their play in front of the rest of their class. There were some great performances and they should be commended for their acting skills and creativity!

Meet Year 8
Year 8 have had a great start to the year, and Mrs Milne and I have been delighted to put the band back together as their role call teachers! They’ve squeezed quite a bit in, in the few short weeks of the year; had a great time at camp, scored a representative spot in hockey and played in the victorious Parkes Under 14 representative cricket grand final. Many of the class are also auditioning to be involved in MADD Night and The Little Mermaid. Well done Year 8; we’re proud of your energy and look forward to a great 2021.

CSSA Zone Swimming
On Tuesday a large contingent of students made their way to Orange for the regional carnival.
There were many great swims on the day, and we have heard so far of the Primary qualifications for the state carnival which is being held at the Blacktown Aquatic Centre on Monday.
Nicole and Kelly Ellis (11 years boy champion), Margaret McConnell and Henry Unger will represent our school, with a fifth swimmer, Grace Bligh unable to attend.
In the High School, it hasn't yet been confirmed, however, a large number of swimmers should be making their way to the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre on March 30.
Jack and Riley McMaster scored some impressive times and placings in several events, with Jack blasting his opponents out of the water in the 50 m Freestyle with a dazzling 28.29, a good 2 seconds ahead of second place.
Thomas McIntrye and Walter Smeaton qualified in the 100 m freestyle, along with the McMaster brothers, and Samuel Quince qualified through the Individual Medley and the Butterfly.
Jack McMaster, William Ellis, Tom McIntyre and Marcus Moss participated in the Senior Medley and Freestyle relays for the school, achieving 2nd in the Medley and 3rd in the Freestyle.
Chelsea Day also performed well, unofficially qualifying in the backstroke.
Thank you to all the parents who assisted with timekeeping and marshalling during the day, and also to the fine efforts of our swimmers.
Lions Youth of the Year
William Ellis and Luke Hall-Matthews participated in the Lions Youth of the Year in Forbes on Wednesday. This event involves an interview process with local business people and Lions Club representatives and then a public speaking event in the evening. The boys presented prepared speeches on topics of their choice and then faced two impromptu questions, testing their ability to think on the spot. It was fantastic to have two representatives from our school again and we really appreciate the support and encouragement of the Lions Club.
Luke had a particularly good night, facing his public speaking fears, and taking out the public speaking section, and was the overall winner. Well done to both boys and congratulations to Luke on his win.
We look forward to seeing how Luke goes at the next level.
House Colours Day
What a day to show off the pride of the lions, the excellence of the eagles and the determination of the sharks! Our school was a sea of red, yellow and blue on Wednesday as we were able to celebrate our house spirit for the first House Colours Day of 2021. Students had full stomachs with yummy baked goods and challenged themselves on the obstacle courses at lunch. So many house points were awarded to students from Kinder to Year 12. Special mention this term goes to the Thompson family who all had matching shirts made for the day!
The SRC would like to say a special thank you to our school community for getting involved in baking and buying and just generally being AWESOME! Also the SLR class and other selected students who built a wonderful obstacle course for all our students!
Our fastest in each house was:
Endeavour: Tyler Boland
Discovery: Luke Magill
Endurance: Steven Unger

Seniors Sydney/Jamberoo Excursion
Early on Wednesday morning, the Stage 6 students embarked on their adventure to Sydney. For the Year 12’s, this was their last stage based excursion. We headed off to Sydney via the Blue Mountains and hit the rain and fog for lunch at Katoomba, preventing us from seeing the panoramic.... continue reading...

PI(e) Day
As March 14 falls on a Sunday this year, Parkes Christian School will host the annual celebration of the International Day of Mathematics (otherwise known as PI - Day) on the following Monday.
As usual, the focus of the day will be the consumption of pies, supplied by Smeaton's Bakery as their famous shape allows students young and old to remember the area of a circle (pies are square). Students are able to purchase a meal-deal of a pie and a drink for $6.
Other activities during the day are:
Pi recitation - recite as many decimal places of pi (record is 137 by Angelique Bland)

Students in the Community
Sam Quince has been out and about a lot recently in sport. This Year 8 student has participated in hockey and swimming for the school, and spent last weekend in Tamworth as part of the Western Stars Centre of Development for Hockey.
Here he is pictured with Regional Coaching Coordinator, Glenn Johnstone after receiving his medal for winning the coaches award for Western over the whole 4-month program, and he was the only goalkeeper to do so.
Well done Sam!
Around 60 girls enjoyed participating in the Girls Development Tennis Camp a few weeks ago, enjoying on and off court activities and learning that there are amazing opportunities in tennis!

Jaslyn Hewitt led the camp and the PCS students that attended were thrilled to meet her and participate in the day!
