Crowdfunding to Uplift Communities
Crowdfund Better
You see a need in the community and want to address it, but it’s going to take both funding and a group of people committed to the cause to make it happen. Have you considered crowdfunding? One of its unsung values is that crowdfunding is not only about raising capital, but it also creates a lot of non-financial value, too, like community buy-in and opportunities to attract partners and collaborators. Curious how that works? Read how Latino filmmaker, Gerry Maravilla, used crowdfunding to make his film “Cross.” |

California Legislature Approves $9.6 billion for Early COVID-19 Relief
Sacramento, CA – The California Legislature passed a package of budget bills that will speed needed relief to individuals, families and businesses suffering the most significant economic hardship from the COVID-19 Recession. The package includes SB 87, principal coauthored by Assemblymember Chris Holden, which will provide $2.1 billion additional funds for small business and nonprofit relief grants.
“With vaccinations increasing and COVID-19 rates coming down, we can’t forget that small businesses who are the lifeblood of our economy are still struggling,” said Assemblymember Chris Holden. “The COVID-19 relief package passed today will play a vital role in California’s economic recovery.”
The seven budget ‘trailer bills’ included the following provisions:
- $2.1 billion in additional funding for the state’s COVID relief small business and non-profit grant program.
- $2 billion in tax cuts—focused on small businesses—over the next several years by exempting the first $150,000 of expenses paid by federal Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and federal Economic Injury Disaster Loan funds.
- $600 additional tax rebate for all CalEITC recipients for 2020 tax year.
- $600 tax rebate for all ITIN tax filers up to $75,000 of income
- $600 additional grant for families enrolled in CalWORKs.
- $600 additional grant for individuals enrolled in Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants (CAPI).
- $5.7 million supplemental stimulus payments for low-income Californians.
- $857 million beginning in 2021-22 to restore selected program cuts in the 2020-21 budget agreement including:
- $300 million for the California State University, $300 million for the University of California, and $128 million for the Judiciary.
- $240 million to expand eligibility for CalWORKs by exempting the supplemental federal Unemployment Insurance benefits from income calculations.
- $400 million in available federal funds to provide stipends of $525 per enrolled child for all state-subsidized child care and preschool providers serving approximately 400,000 children in subsidized care statewide. The new federal resources will extend care for children of essential workers through June of 2022, and increase access to subsidized child care for more than 8,000 children of essential workers and at-risk children – who are not currently served in the system -- through June of 2022.
- $120 million to accelerate proposed additional aid for community college students, and $16 million for outreach to higher education students on availability of CalFresh benefits.
- $35 million for immediate support for Food Banks and Diaper Banks.
- $24 million to support the Housing for the Harvest program to provide shelter and aid for farmworkers impacted by COVID-19.

Inspire Diagnosis Diagnostics
On-Site COVID Testing for Business
|
|
|
Any business with 3 or more employees is welcome. Their requirement states they need to get employees tested at no cost, on company time. Sending employees to testing sites adds payroll costs, the risk of accidents for traveling on Company time, and no control of when or if the test results come in. Failure to comply could open up the employer to fines from the State and Lawsuits from employees. On-site testing can help mitigate much of that risk.
If anyone is interested, please have them contact John Christensen at (909) 767-1401.

Life Pacific University
Life Pacific University Earns High Ranking Among National Collage and Universities
|
|
|
San Dimas, CALIF. – Life Pacific University was recently recognized in two national rankings, the 2021 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges and Learn.org’s Best Online Colleges in California.
Life Pacific University ranked #9 in Top Performers on Social Mobility among regional colleges in the West by U.S. News & World Report. Social mobility is an indicator that measures how well schools graduated students who received Pell Grants. Life Pacific University is proud to be awarded this ranking as the university works to change the course of incoming students’ socio-economic standing and helps low income students graduate and enter higher income brackets.
President Angie Richey states, “LPU’s mission is the transformational development of students into leaders prepared to serve God in the church, the workplace, and the world. This recognition confirms the transformation that each student experiences at LPU to grow and thrive as leaders. I am thrilled that LPU has earned this ranking and even more thrilled to see our students making a difference in the lives of their families and communities.”
In addition, Learn.org ranked LPU #17 among the Best Online Colleges in California. This ranking is based on factors such as flexibility, cost, prerequisites, and program length. With its growth in online AA, Degree Completion, and master’s level programs, LPU is a recognized leader among private, Christian higher education institutions for the strength of its remote learning.
Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Daniel Ruarte states, “It is due to a committed team of faculty, staff, and university partners who serve God at LPU by providing top quality education and services, that we could accomplish such rankings. I am so proud of the LPU team for their commitment to impact and transform our students’ lives. My hope is that we see continual improvement and I would love to see LPU rise to the top in future years.”
"It is exciting to see LPU recognized for these rankins. LPU is small, but mighty."
An alumnus of the university, Director of Enrollment Management Matthew Tapp adds, “As someone whose role means I’m always sharing about LPU with other people, it is exciting to see LPU recognized for these rankings. LPU is small, but mighty. We have been doing incredible work for many years – transforming students into leaders who serve God all over the world! Being recognized for this work is validating and I hope it gives future students, current students, and alumni confidence and pride in their university!”
