This month’s newsletter was delayed as we awaited the province’s announcement to lift Niagara’s lockdown. The good news is we’re transitioning from Grey–Lockdown to Red-Control today. For the library, this means we can open for computers by appointment and in-person browsing.
It will take several days to reconfigure the library from curbside pickup only to a mix of in-person and pickup services. We’ve also hired new staff who are training over the next few weeks as we prep for re-opening on March 15. Thank you for your patience as we transition to offering services in the Red-Control stage.
The other good news is spring begins in only 19 days. Master gardener in training and board member, Betty Knight, helps you welcome spring to your garden during her one-hour workshop, Dishin’ the Dirt, on March 11, the same day our Seed Library opens. Borrow heirloom varieties native to Niagara and make Mother Nature smile. I’m borrowing Black Seeded Simpson lettuce and some pre-1936 Cosmos Sensation Mix.
Heirloom varieties will also be planted behind the library in the Community Garden that’s expanding this season. Thank you to the Communities in Bloom volunteers who do such a great job maintaining the garden. We’re also working with the Town to transition our flower gardens with the landscaping planned around the new Niagara Nursery School facility. There’s lots to look forward to this spring and we look forward to seeing you back in the library.
