Welcome to this week's issue of The Birthday Workbook

This week, we read about the reflections of someone who suffered many losses in life. A stroke, a divorce and depression.

Before you read the article:
Have you ever thought about "what's the worst that could happen"? Do you remember what were the occasions that made you think like that? What did you do in those situations?

Now, watch the following video and answer these questions:
  1. What struck you most about the video?
  2. What does vulnerability mean to you now?
After reading the article, consider the following questions:
  1. Bernadette's first therapist told her to "accept that the Bernadette you knew has died." What do you think the therapist was trying to say?
  2. She wrote about "my fear of pain was a laughing point for some of my "friends"" - what kinds of your friends might you want to have if you went through what Bernadette went through? What kind of friend do you want to be if someone you knew well met with Bernadette's situation?
  3. How do you think Bernadette is an example of vulnerability and courage?
Additional Activity:
  • Write a letter to Bernadette with your responses to the above reflection questions. Send it to us at thebirthdaycollective@gmail.com and we'll help to send it to Bernadette for you!

Further Resources: That's all for this week! Stay safe, take care, and feel free to write to us with your thoughts or feedback!
