Register your events for a global celebration of Education for Sustainable Development in May

In celebration of the World Conference on Education for Sustainable Development, UNESCO aim to give as many people as possible the chance to be part of the global efforts to promote ESD in the month of May.

To this end, we would like to invite all partners across the world to organize your local, national or regional ESD event. Select events will be promoted on the UNESCO World Conference website.
 
We invite you to organize your own in-person or virtual ESD-related events or register pre-planned ones in May.

Launching: UNESCO LinkedIn Group on Education for Sustainable Development


Do you believe in the power of education to combat climate change, promote sustainable development and empower learners to address global social, economic and environmental challenges such as poverty, inequalities, mass biodiversity loss?

Join the UNESCO Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) LinkedIn Group, a new community for global conversation, knowledge sharing and partnership on how to transform learning to transform the world.

Teachers – have your say about education for sustainable development and global citizenship

UNESCO is conducting a global online survey of teachers in partnership with Education International to find out how they are integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) and Global Citizenship Education (GCED) into their teaching.

Primary and secondary teachers are invited to respond to the survey until 25 April, which is available in Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Kiswahili, Korean, Portuguese, Russian and Spanish. Find out more

Call for nominations: UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development 2021

Nominations for the 2021 UNESCO-Japan Prize on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) close on 30th April and can be made by UNESCO Member States via their Permanent Delegation in consultation with their National Commission as well as by non-governmental organizations NGOs in official partnership with UNESCO. 

Generously funded by the Government of Japan, the Prize will award three prizes of US $50,000 to exceptional projects and programmes in the field of Education for Sustainable Development.

Thousands join us on the road to Berlin through online workshop series

Thousands of people across the world have been joining us for our online workshop series focusing on the transformative power of ESD for the world beyond COVID-19. The final event of the series will be held on 14 April from 12:30 GMT+2, focusing on the ESD for 2030 framework and the World Conference. Find out more and register or follow live on YouTube.

Schools around the world are celebrating their Trash Hacks 

In January, UNESCO launched the guide 'Trash Hack: Action Learning for Sustainable Development' to support teachers in engaging their students in trash hacking, providing examples of fun activities to reduce waste. Thousands joined UNESCO ASPnet and the Foundation for Environmental Education for a launch webinar.

Many schools are taking part in this call, sending in their photos and videos! Take a look at their activities to get inspired, check out the hashtag and share your own personal trash hack with #TrashHack!

UN Member State event focuses on ESD: Building Forward, Building Better

On 26 February the Group of Friends for Education and Lifelong Learning teamed up with UN Member States, UNESCO, UNFCCC and education experts to put the spotlight on Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) as an enabler for the COVID rebuilding process and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

Innovation Day 2021: "The Responsible University"

The Innovation Research Network (RRI), in partnership with the Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF), is organising the Innovation Day 2021 on the theme of "The Responsible University". Based on case studies, presentation of different transition support mechanisms (charters, labels) and testimonies, the evolution of the university's mission in the implementation of responsible forms of innovation will be presented and discussed.

Trash Hack: Action learning for sustainable development

UNESCO is uniting schools around the world to take action against waste. Trash Hack: Action learning for sustainable development is a guide for teachers to engage their students to trash hack their classrooms, schools, communities and homes.
The guide has been created thanks to the generosity of the Government of Japan, and young people around the world are already using it and sharing their #TrashHacks on Instagram.

The climate in our hands - Ocean and Cryosphere

The UNESCO Center, ‘Office for Climate Education’ (OCE) has just launched “Climate in Our Hands”, a free educational kit for primary and secondary schools addressing the theme ‘Ocean and Cryosphere’. It promotes the use of active pedagogies and interdisciplinarity, enabling students to understand the mechanisms of climate change and its impacts, as well as the importance of Ocean and frozen surfaces in climate regulation and in the development of human societies.

The Sustainable Lifestyles Education Hub collects resources in one place with the aim of making them accessible for educators, learners and policy makers. By highlighting resources from around the globe the Hub provides opportunities for applied and active learning about real-world issues with direct relevance and impact on their daily lives. Find out more
