What's up @PCF?

for the Third Sunday

in Lent

There was another glitch...

but not in the system this time.  For reasons that remain a bit of a mystery, Rob sent out last weeks' "What's up @PCF" with the title What's up @PCF for Lent 3 instead of What's up @PCF for Lent 2. My guess is that I had been working on this week's issue already and that may have caused a bit of confusion.  Anyway, apologies all around and I just hope that the recipients of last week's issue didn't think they had slept through a week, not hard to do during the COVID-19 crisis where all days seem the same.

Glitches appear...

to come in threes.  Some recipients of last week's "What's up" were unable to access the Lent Garden because the "short hand" (bit.ly) of a very long link did not seem to work (it worked for me).  The link to the Lent Garden for the Second Sunday in Lent can be found HERE.

The following message ...

is a repeat from last week's but it's an important one.  You can reach your PCF Executive or General Committee directly now through the email address executive@pinawa.church. Use that address if you want to send kudos for a job well done, suggestions for improvement, or a complaint. Those emails will be forwarded to Bob McCamis, Senior Convenor, and will be treated as confidential if required, or forwarded to the appropriate person or committee.

You can also reach Lori Evenden stewardship@pinawa.church for volunteer opportunities and Karen Ross treasurer@pinawa.church for financial information or to arrange donations through pre-authorized remittance or other means.

Rob Murray answers the general church email address pcf@pinawa.church. Rob also answers the church cell phone 204-753-8439 (voice, text or voice mail). When Rob is away someone else may monitor the email and phone. Email addressed to minister@pinawa.church is only viewed by Rob.

While Rob is "away"...

on study leave for the first two weeks of March, Chuck Vandergraaf is taking charge of the "what's up" for two weeks. and will be linking us with online worship at Windsor Park United Church with Patrick Woodbeck, and Bethel Mennonite Church with Kathy McCamis for those two  Sundays.

This Sunday...

the congregation is invited to join in worship with the Windsor Park United Church (WPUC) congregation (on the corner of Autumnwood and Cottonwood in Winnipeg).  The Rev. Patrick Woodbeck will be leading the service.  Patrick is the son of Kathy and the late Bill Woodbeck and grew up in Pinawa.  The service will be a Communion service and will be available at 10:30 AM HERE, but will also be available for viewing later on.  You are invited to join in the communion celebration by having a piece of bread and some wine or grape juice available at the appropriate time.

With one click you will open up a collection of daily bible readings, children’s bible story readings, prayers, and questions to think about throughout each week. Once you’ve got these devotions at hand, go ahead and click around the rest of the garden to discover so much more.

The Ghedbans...

whom many PCF’ers helped when they came to Lac du Bonnet as Kurdish refugees from Syria nearly four years ago, have relocated to Winnipeg.  This move was triggered by a job offer for Mostafa in Winnipeg of more regular employment in painting and renovation while working with fellow Kurds.  The Ghedbans had been talking about moving to Winnipeg for a while both to get Mostafa more work and to expose their three boys to more Kurdish language and culture there.  They had hoped to wait until the end of the school year but this job offer was contingent on Mostafa starting now.

Three Kurdish friends from Winnipeg drove out with a moving truck last Sunday and loaded up most of the Ghedban belongings.  Bruce Williams, who also helped by taking a couple of loads of discards to the dump, reported they locked the house and left for the city around 4 pm.  Because they have to give thirty days notice they will be back during March a few times to pick up odds and ends and clean the house.  They have rented a house near St Anne’s and Fermor in Winnipeg.

Before departing, Mostafa and Farah expressed sincere thanks to everyone who helped them to settle and make a new life for themselves in Lac du Bonnet.  Farah also thanked everyone who has helped to support her brother Mohamad Misto and his family in Lebanon.  The Winnipeg River Refugee Initiative (WRRI) has applied  to sponsor the Misto family to come to Canada.  Regrettably, because of the current pandemic, there has been no progress on the sponsorship application this past year.  Currently WRRI has sufficient funds to support the Mistos financially until the end of June.  Some additional donations have recently been offered to extend this time.  WRRI will review the situation in May.
