Keep abreast of the International Bible Teaching ministry, and learn about faith, in just minutes a week.

Edinburgh, 3 March 2021

Good morning!

It's been a busy stretch, with online teaching in Europe and Asia, and even more this week with North American commitments, including the Teleios Justice conference that begins tomorrow. More than 1000 are already planning to join. It's not too late for you to register. If you're interested, click on the graphic below.

In today's bulletin you'll also find notes to Jesus & Politics (with some of your responses) and a two-part evidences presentation on Jesus. And you may want to check out Trinidadian teacher and friend Tyrone Marcus's thoughts on John 2— HERE.

Jesus & Politics

Thanks for your comments on last week's talk on Jesus & Politics. Some reactions (all from the generation behind me):
  • Jesus didn't demonize people—how different from so much political discourse! Instead, we're called to be peacemakers. Our main identity is in Christ. I need to rethink whether I should be identifying politically with any group. It's okay to have opinions, but if these mean we're sinning against others, or causing division, then we need to repent.
  • Yes, we're called to change the world soul by soul. The effect of God's advancing kingdom on earth is stronger than anything politics can achieve.
  • I'm astounded by how easily people can be manipulated, swallowing anything their party or group says. Even Christians can be led astray, as the Bible reminds us. Thanks for calling us to think things through.
  • Many churches are failing to help their members think biblically about issues like Black Lives Matter (racial equality), Women’s Empowerment (gender equality), and conspiracy theories (QAnon, election fraud, etc). This lesson provides a helpful framework so that we're better prepared to engage.
As promised, complete notes for the message (4-5 pages) are now available.

The Jesus of the Bible: Fact or Fiction?

The February messages delivered to online audiences in Massachusetts, Vermont, and Rhode Island are now public: If you are involved in campus ministry, or youth ministry, or are reaching out to skeptics, I believe some of this material may prove helpful. It's already strengthened the faith of many here in Europe.

All for now...

That's all for this week. Your prayers are always appreciated—especially for my talk “Justice and Judgment: The Scream of the Prophet Amos,” in this week's conference. I'm up Friday 3:30 pm CT, 9:30 pm GMT. In a few days I'm also teaching for Mexico City, on the Holy Spirit. We can't put God in a box, or capture the truth about the Spirit in a single talk, so I solicit your prayers about that presentation, too—that I may be reverent, accurate, and edifying.

Your brother,
Douglas
