How do we pray when we don’t feel like praying?
How do we pray through this pandemic that has gone on for so long?

Two things I want to especially point out: First, a special prayer meeting to lament this pandemic together. See below for details, but see this as act of learning to pray together, even as we make sense of what is happening all around us. Second, a reflection of how to move from Zoom fatigue to deeper prayer.

Gathering up momentum to pray, especially in times like this, can be difficult. If you are able and willing, dive in with us at our monthly prayer meetings, or join a group of friends and commit to praying for one another and our world. Short, simple prayers can be powerful and life-giving.

The heron wind structure, pictured above, is located at George Wainborn park in Vancouver. It reminds me, even if we have no words or motivation to pray - the Spirit gives us words (Luke 12:12).

Praying for you,
Jason

Special Prayer Meeting: A Year to Lament, Together

We last met for in-person worship at 10100 No. 1 Road, on March 8, 2020. After one year, our lives have changed, we were forced to adapt, and we continue to wait for the pandemic to subside.

While it may feel like there is nothing we can do, we can most certainly pray.

I invite you to lament together.

Lament is not just an airing out of our sorrows. It is doing that, with an under girding hope in our faithful Lord. Join us to pray, to listen, to share…and to lament to our God, the things we wish were not.

Tuesday, March 16, 7:30pm to 8:30pm

Reflection: How Zoom Fatigue Can Teach Us to Pray

Why is being on Zoom so exhausting? No surprise here, according to this paper: fatigue is caused by “non-verbal overload.” Four explanations are given: 1) excessive amounts of close-up eye gaze, 2) cognitive overload, 3) increased self-evaluation from staring at video of oneself, and 4) constraints on physical mobility. In other words, it’s not just talking and listening that tires you out, it’s just sitting there in silence

Every Season Marriage Group

We are gathering married couples who want to talk, pray, and learn together what it means to grow in our marriages in Christ.

The groups will meet once every three months.

We are beginning a group this month for couples married up to 7 years. We plan to begin another group for those married 7+ years in the spring.

If you’re interested to join, connect with Pastor Jason - jason.cheung@rcac.ca - and he’d be glad to share more about these groups more.
