The Bakerloo Line x Hatcham
Dear Hatcham residents,
Some of you may have received a Statutory Safeguarding letter today from TFL. This is a Government direction, protecting the land which TFL needs for their extension. New Cross Gate is going to be a major construction site as TFL would like to lower their boring tunnel machines there.
With TFL and the country's finances in dire straights, it's not yet known when exactly the Bakerloo line works will begin. We'll know it's actually happening when a Transport and Works Act Order for the extension comes to Parliament. In the meantime, you can see the proposed tunnel alignment which will go under Hatcham (p.4) by clicking the image. According to the letter from TFL, no residential properties fall within the 'Areas of Surface Internet' for the extension, so no one will hopefully have to go through the dislocation faced by residents of Camden during the HS2 construction.
The tunnels will apparently be 15 metres below the surface and TFL say residents living above the tunnels "are unlikely to experience disturbance during construction or from the operation of the railway."
Lewisham Local Plan
I know everyone has pandemic fatigue, but if you have any spare energy, please attend the council's online meeting which will go over Lewisham council's future plans for Lewisham North (Aka Hatcham/New Cross Gate). The Local Plan acts as a blueprint for what the council wants for the borough until 2040.
If you want a say in the local area, join in the meetings. Don't be a passive observer of change in your neighbourhood.
