Practice Videos continue to be posted weekly - check your YouTube Playlist!
Please encourage your musician to use the practice videos on a regular basis.
Dear musicians and families,
It's been lovely to see many of you back in person these past 2 weeks, as well as seeing the continued participation and growth in our dedicated home learners. Classes will continue to be offered in-person and virtually via Zoom for the month of March. We are gearing up for some new recorded performances and will have a fun month of classes! I am planning a spring break around Easter & the schools' April break, but will wait to see if a lockdown occurs sooner that might influence that decision. Keep practicing hard and making great music!
Musically yours,
Jennifer

St Patrick's Day Fiddle Challenge
All group class students are invited to participate in the St Patrick's day fiddle challenge! Simply record a video of yourself at home in a green shirt performing your class fiddle tune (Beginners: Fiddler's WarmUp, Juniors: Rubber Dolly, Seniors and Adults: Rd to Lisdoonvarna or Swallowtail Jig). Submit the video to me by Monday, March 15th via Google Drive or WeTransfer.com or on a USB stick. *Use the backing tracks if you can!*
  • 3 winners will be selected and awarded a prize!
Green Shirt Days
We will be doing some in-class video performances for St Patrick's Day as well. Group Class students are invited to wear a Green Shirt to class on the following days:
  • Tuesday, March 16: Beginner Class and Senior Teens
  • Wednesday, March 17: Junior Class 2 and Adult Learners
  • Thursday, March 18: Junior Class 1 and Senior Class
Private Students Virtual Recital
All private students should speak with their instructor and choose 1 favourite song to concentrate upon for the rest of March. By the end of the month, your teacher will help you to make a performance video with a live or recorded accompaniment. You can dress up and make it a real performance with a smile, introduction, and a bow at the end! All performances will be shared in a virtual recital on YouTube and FB in early April. We hope to host mini live recitals in early June as well, pending pandemic restrictions.

Level 8 Concerto Challenge
Our Level 8 RCM private students should give extra focus to their Concerto practice this term. We will host the performances live with accompaniment on Sat, April 24th for the participating students. Recordings will be submitted for a local concerto competition in Dundas and shared on our social media.

Tips for Online Music Lessons
  • Arrange a quiet environment for your musician.
  • Set up your music stand at head-height.
  • Have your sheet music, a pencil, and high-liters ready.
  • Tune your instrument using an electronic tuner or tuning app BEFORE class.
  • A microphone & headphones/speakers will improve the sound quality.
  • Turn Original Sound ON, if given the option in your Zoom call on your device.
  • In the Audio Settings, choose "Suppress Background Noise- LOW"
  • Stay muted during group classes until called upon.
  • Have fun!
Studio COVID-19 Protocols
We are screening daily, and expect that no person will enter the studio if they are unwell, have travelled outside of the country or have been exposed to a known or suspected Covid19 case. Students must wear masks and remain at 6 foot distancing, and class size is limited to 4-9 members plus instructor. Guests are limited to 1 adult guardian for children under 10 who must also be masked. We supply hand sanitizer for arrivals and departures and clean high touch surfaces hourly (music stands, door handles). We ask that musicians enter the studio no more than 5 mins before their scheduled class and that departures at the end of class are punctual. For group classes, parents are asked to remain outside during drop-off and pick-up when possible and to wear masks while waiting near the studio entrances. I will personally escort small children to the back entrance.

Parking and Drop-off
Lastly, a reminder that all families should use the Municipal Parking lot and avoid parking or stopping in the private lot as these spaces are not available for our use and the increased traffic makes exit and entrance less safe for our students. Please escort young children to and from the studio door.
