Beannachtaí Lá Fhéile Pádraig
In this year of the pandemic we are reminded of suffering around the world and hope that everyone is keeping healthy and safe.
BEST WISHES TO ALL ON THIS SAINT PATRICK'S DAY
We had been looking forward to the next General Meeting of the worldwide Nolan Clan scheduled for September 2021.  But, given current circumstances we have decided that planning an event for this year is ill advised.  Travel, accommodations and health restrictions remain uncertain.

However, technology provides us with the facility to meet remotely.  We propose something new - Zoom conferences. We hope you will join us in this great way to connect.

The first of these Zoom events will happen in April. The date is being comfirmed and we will send out a notification by email.

We will explore the importance of health care workers in history and in particular the nursing profession's crucial role in times of crisis.

One presentation will explore nursing during the Crimean War. It was in those field hospitals that Florence Nightingale first gained prominence after encountering the organizational expertise of Irish nurses. A Nolan connection here is to British army officer Louis Nolan (4 January 1818 – 25 October 1854) who was famously the first killed in that war's ill fated Charge of the Light Brigade.

Another presentation will focus on 1916 Dublin during the Easter Rising. As British reinforcements marched from Dun Laoghaire to Dublin they were ambushed at the Mount Street Bridge over the Grand Canal. There, 240 soldiers were killed or wounded. Nurse Louisa Nolan made her way into the confusion to aid the wounded.
We hope you will join us and share your stories of health care workers. Please reply so we will know your interest. We will forward the meeting details as they are finalized.
And if you have any suggestions for future meetings please let us know.
Thanks to all and best wishes.
