SPOTLIGHT:  IUSD NURSES

If you didn't catch this story a couple weeks ago, we wanted to spotlight it here to make sure everyone knows our nurses are heroes not only to our kids, but to the community as well. >read IUSD News

Lucky to Have Nurses and Counselors Supporting Our Students!
Congratulations to University High School's Mock Trial team, who last week won their second Orange County championship, defeating Valencia High School in Round 8 of the competition! UNI Mock Trial has appeared in three of the last six Final Rounds of the Orange County competition, winning in both 2017 and this year. The team, which consists of students portraying attorney and witness roles in a fictional legal case, now advances to the state competition, which will be held via Zoom between March 18th and 21st.

Go Trojans!
It's March Membership Madness!
We want to encourage membership year-round and this month we have an incentive! Any memberships submitted will have your PTA entered to win a $75 donation. It can be one, two or fifty memberships (definitely try for 50), and you'll be entered to win!

This is also a great time to try out Totem and get a practice run with online memberships for next year! Please reach out to our Membership VP, Patricia (membership@iucpta.org), with any questions!
Sacramento Safari 2021 Takeaways
This year has been especially important for PTA members to flex their advocacy muscle in support of ALL children across the state and locally.  California State PTA has published their 10 Things California State PTA Recommends for the Safe Reopening of Schools

Last week's Sacramento Safari virtual event (Check Out the Recordings & Takeaways!) has provided great insight into the unique budget situation of unanticipated one-time funding being available.  However, the challenge is now how to spend this money with so many competing priorities such as eliminating deferrals, helping schools reopen, providing funding for programs like teacher training, and general-purpose funding for local priorities.

In IUSD, we know we're already one of the lowest funded school districts in the state and so our advocacy efforts are focused on trying to get more funding that would be distributed as equitably as possible --knowing the best we can do is getting it thru the Local Control Funding Formula. Our hope is that other funding sources will materialize from the federal government and state due to revenue adjustment increases and allow IUSD to spend where most needed.

Let your families know if they have not joined PTA yet, then the voice for our kids gets drowned out by other competing lobbyists and organizations and we can potentially lose funding sources that IUSD deservingly needs.  Legislators look at their constituent numbers and make decisions based on the number of voices heard.  Help keep our voices LOUD!
