Dear Colleague:

On 21 September 2020, the UN General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the commemoration of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the United Nations (UN75 Declaration), which outlines a vision and twelve distinct commitments toward enhancing international cooperation and strengthening “coordination and global governance for the common future of present and coming generations.” It tasks the Secretary-General to report back by September 2021 “with recommendations to advance our common agenda and to respond to current and future challenges.”

The Robert Bosch Stiftung GmbH, the Federal Foreign Office of Germany, Stimson Center, the Academic Council on the UN System (ACUNS), Plataforma CIPÓ, and Leiden University are pleased to invite you to participate in this virtual event aimed at facilitating independent reflection as a contribution to the Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda report. In particular, the event intends to respond to the question "In marking 75 years of the United Nations, how can the results of last year’s intense reflection now be turned into action and contribute to innovation and strengthening of the world body?”

This forum seeks to provoke debate on the necessary efforts for translating the momentum generated in 2020 into tangible actions for reinvigorating and strengthening the United Nations. While maintaining a global outlook, it will consider Europe’s role and potential in mobilizing capabilities, ideas and networks needed to advance our common agenda for a UN fit for the future.

We look forward to your participation in this virtual event.
