Dear Lumen Members and Friends,

Lenten greetings to all Lumen members and your families. We are already in week two of this period where we are invited to look at Jesus and hear him call us to a closer following through increased prayer, fasting and alms (mercy) giving.

In the midst of our busy lives, I invite you to focus your attention on making this Lent a time that counts. Do not let it pass you by; no one can live it but you. May we each make more time to prayerfully listen to God in silence and stillness. May we each offer exterior and interior sacrifices out of love by giving up both sinful behaviors as well as good and licit physical enjoyments (or perhaps some of our social media use!). Lastly, may we each allow Jesus to show his merciful love through us to those in need. This can take many forms such as increased financial tithing, feeding-clothing the homeless, giving shelter to those in need, caring for the sick, forgiving those who have offended you as well as mentoring others.

In this third month dedicated to contemplating the Core Value of Influence, we will reflect and discuss our living of Lumen Action. Let us ask the grace of the Holy Spirit to be leaders who show the merciful heart of Christ to all those we meet and commit to those acts of service which he asks this Lent.

God bless you and your loved ones.

Message from Bob Dill, Lumen Managing Director

Hello Lumen,

I hope this email finds you and your families well and having a good start to your Lenten journey.

I’m now starting month three in my new role as Managing Director and very excited with the direction and positive energy of Lumen 3.0. A very special thank you to Jim Hislop for his six years of dedicated leadership as Lumen M.D. The current Lumen Admin team of Jim Hislop, Bob Stone, Paivi Eck, Corinne Murphy, and myself is a total team effort. Of course, none of this would be possible without the good works of our Chaplains and Chapter Presidents.

The Lumen 3.0 Mission is: To Form Christian Leaders Illuminating Society with the Light of Christ. This mission is directly tied to Lumen Action. Our National Action is mentoring and helping to form the next generation of Christian leaders. But Lumen Action is much more, and we have seen some beautiful examples over the past few weeks. From New York’s Rosary Novena for our country, Washington DC’s prayer group outside an abortion clinic, to assisting the homeless during Houston’s deep freeze. I’m certain there are many more and we would love to hear about them.

We will provide an opportunity to collect and share your good works through the Lumen Action KPI. This is not meant to be boastful or show self-satisfaction, but a way to help illustrate the fruits of Lumen. Christian Leaders, Illuminating Society with the Light of Christ!

God Bless,
Bob Dill
Lumen Managing Director

Lumen Connecticut Chapter
Pierre Ferragu from Lumen Connecticut has re-started the Jesus Runs with his friend Derek Mogul. This photo was taken last Friday as participants prepared for the Jesus Run.  Since restarting this initiative,  there have been two 2 successful Runs and the demand seems to grow higher with each passing week.

Here is our simple plan: Meet at Pierre’s office, prepare food bags, hot coffee, etc, then walk over to Penn Station to distribute to the homeless and spend some time with them.
You are welcome to bring supplies (toiletries, warm gloves/hats, clothes, blankets, etc), but certainly not required.

To join this beautiful mission, contact Pierre at pierre@ferragu.net.  The tentative schedule includes monthly runs on the last Friday of each month beginning Friday, March 26, with a break in August.
Advent Retreat WDC
Ten of Lumen members gathered for a half day Advent retreat at Divine Mercy University to reflect on the selflessness of Christ and how this should be reflected in their marriage and fatherhood with their children.  Fr. Daniel Pajerski held two meditations and Fr. Michael Sliney, a group discussion, rosary and finished with Mass. Fr. Charles Sikorsky, President of Divine Mercy University is pictured here giving an overview of the University’s mission to the men.
