Celebrating 70 Years

This year is a significant one as it marks the 70th anniversary of the opening of the College on Tuesday 13 February 1951, in Queen Street, Norwood.
As part of the College’s 70 year celebrations, a group of founding students who commenced at the Norwood campus in 1951, came together for morning tea at the Junior School on Tuesday 16 March. It was a delight to see the former classmates mingle and reminisce about the early days of the College. They enjoyed a presentation by Principal, Peter Coffey (Class of 1978) covering the history of the College to future plans and developments along with an archival display. We felt privileged to host these special guests and bear witness to the camaraderie amongst them.

Family Fun Fair

This Saturday, 27 March from 11.00 am to 5.00 pm, we will host the College Family Fun Fair at the Senior School in a COVID-safe way. This event is a great community-building activity and we look forward to seeing you all there!

Breaking Ground

Last month, the soil was turned in preparation for the Junior School development, The Mary Glowrey Centre. The College seeks to build on the shoulders of those who have gone before us, and the photo represented a rare opportunity for our community leadership to come together, and a wonderful reminder on how our community groups play an integral role to advance the College. Nic Boys, Head of Junior School  shared:
“The Junior School campus has entered an exciting chapter in the life of the college as we prepare to undertake what will be the most significant building project here in nearly 20 years. Hosting an amphitheatre, STEM facilities, music classes, tuition rooms an indoor gymnasium and new Year 6 classrooms, we are building an enlivening legacy for our children and future generations.”

Sr Mary Glowrey

Recently Saint Ignatius' College Advancement Manager, Belinda Mears and Fr Peter Hosking SJ (Class of 1974) had a pleasant morning tea with Mary Glowrey’s niece, who is a Little Company of Mary Sister located at Calvary, North Adelaide. Sr Mary is over 90, and it was quite special to hear of her recollections of her aunt who was born in 1887 and died in 1957.
We look forward to sharing the progress of the build with Sr Mary.

Old Ignatian doing his part for MS

Old Ignatian Will Duncan (Class of 2014) is participating in the Cairns Ironman: a 3.8km swim, 180km ride and 42.2km run to help support people living with Multiple Sclerosis.

"I have dedicated a lot of time already, and have a lot more to come in the following months, to succeed in my goal of finishing an Ironman. I am also doing this to raise money for Team MS, a branch of the MS Society SA and NSW. I am hoping to raise $5,000 but would love for that number to be higher.
Team MS helps people affected by MS gain access to the support and services they need. At least two people are diagnosed with MS in SA every week alone. MS is a chronic neurological condition that as of yet has no cure. All proceeds raised from Team MS fundraisers will help people living with MS improve their quality of life, through services like nursing, continence support, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and social support. I know it’s been a rough last year and start of this year for lots of people, but if you can spare any change I would greatly appreciate the support.”

Everyone loves a good Panini, especially while working from home. CLICK HERE to read all about it.

Saint Ignatius Art Show Re-imagined

The biennial Saint Ignatius Art Show was originally scheduled for 2021, but due to COVID-19, it will now be held in August 2022. To demonstrate our commitment to the arts and to support an arts community struck hard by the pandemic, the College will host a much reduced and different style of artshow this year, while still planning for the 2022 art show.

This year during SALA, the Saint Ignatius Art Show will be in two parts:
Part 1 — Miniature Works Exhibition
Titled 'Through the Wrong End of the Telescope', this exhibition will feature miniature sized art and will be exhibited in the Junior School Hall at Norwood.
Part 2 — Art Show Satellite Exhibitions
College family businesses are invited to host an artist’s works during SALA. To express an interest in hosting an artist(s) please email artshow@ignatius.sa.edu.au.

Symphony of Style Eco Gowns

I am an Adelaide Eco Fashion Designer and Tailor who is taking positive steps towards producing Slow Fashion. I hold an Advanced Dip of Fashion Design & Merchandising and a Bachelor of Education.

I am passionate and committed including vintage components in my Event Wear and sourcing materials locally to limit my carbon footprint of the earth. I love meandering around the Vintage stores and Auction Houses finding Antique Lace & Vintage Fabric, end of Rolls and Beaded & Embroidered Remnants that can be woven into elegant & glamourous Bespoke Event Wear.

My aesthetic is classic elegance and glamour, capturing the essence of the Siren of the Silver Screen. Inspiration for my designs often comes from the Vintage piece purchased, taking into consideration the size, drape and texture of the fabric or lace. From there I will start the design process using my Dress Form, playing with ideas by draping the fabric over it observing how it sit sits and cascades. I then complete a Design Sketch, Illustration, Trade Sketch and pattern. The production process then begins with a toile and then a final garment.

All of this happens in my home studio in the Adelaide Foothills.

I believe there is a groundswell of consumers who are looking at ways of reducing the impact of waste, unethical manufacturing, and unsustainable resource consumption. Education is the key is assisting a shift of consumer attitudes & behaviour in making a commitment to slow fashion.

I sell my Bespoke Wear through Instagram and at Local Markets.

I also offer a made to measure service for those special occasions and complete bridal and Evening wear alterations.
