Canadian Alberta Job Grant - Changes have been made to help grow your business
The Alberta government is temporarily expanding eligibility to the Canada-Alberta Job Grant (CAJG) to help businesses access the training they need. The expansion is effective until February 28, 2022. Expanded eligibility includes:
- Funding mandatory training. Use the CAJG to fund courses or training that is required for a job.
- Allowing employers to train employed family members. Enables family-owned businesses to access training funds.
- Allowing some business owners to receive funding to train themselves.
Temporarily expanding the CAJG provides more opportunities for businesses to access support as part of Alberta’s Recovery Plan. Learn more about the program and apply online at alberta.ca/CAJG.

The 2021 Provincial Budget and Alberta’s Nonprofit Sector
Budget 2021-22 was tabled by the Government of Alberta on February 25. Since the UCP government's first budget in 2019, it has emphasized spending cuts and a race to balance the budget. Because of the detrimental effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the provincial government indicated that balancing the budget was not a priority for them this year. However, programs that affect the nonprofit sector have seen a decline in funding in the past and are expected to continue to see budget cuts in future years.

Statistics Canada data show lack of diversity on nonprofit boards
Statistics Canada recently released the results of a crowdsourced survey that aimed, for the first time, to measure diversity on boards in the sector. This statement from members of the survey's advisory committee explores what we can learn from the results. It calls on the Government to continue to collect data on board diversity in the nonprofit sector and issues a call to action to the nonprofit sector to embrace diversity, equity and inclusion as necessary to achieving our missions and to creating a healthier sector.

Finance Committee recommends support for nonprofit sector in Budget 2021
It was within this context that – between 2 April 2020 and 7 July 2020 – the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance (the Committee) held 26 meetings on the government’s response to the COVID‑19 pandemic. During these meetings, witnesses provided many suggestions as to how the federal government could address the pandemic and what steps could be taken to ensure an effective economic recovery. In light of the relevance of this evidence, on 19 November 2020, the Committee agreed to include its study on the government’s response to the COVID‑19 pandemic in its pre‑budget consultations in advance of the 2021 federal budget.
