Hello Colleague,

March 2, 2021 - Next Monday, March 8th, is International Women's Day! One of MCLD's primary goals is to ensure the voices of women and girls are present in decision making and we are excited to continue this mission in 2021.

As we draw closer, stay tuned to our website and our social media for content on women and girls like this piece on where we are in the flight for global gender equality. (Image: UN Women/Yijiu Yuan)

What Transformation Takes

This month, our Learning Working Group hosted a discussion on responsible transitions to locally led entities, including practical lessons for how shifts in international development paradigms can lead to more sustainable, culture-and-conflict-sensitive partnerships. This talk comes on the tails of the recently published free ebook, What Transformation Takes.

What’s Happening with Vaccines?

March 1 marked the first COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in Africa from the global COVAX facility. It is clear that COVID will continue to disrupt lives for most of this year. Join us on March 10, for our next call in the Adapting CLD to Covid 19 series. This time, we move our focus to the long term impacts of Covid 19 on our sectors and what this means for our programming going forward.

MCLD chapters continue to educate the public on the pandemic and on the vaccine. MCLD-Malawi recently hosted a call-in program on the national radio network, and will soon host another on the national television network.

New Mobile CLD Assessment Tool

Following the launch last month of our CLD Assessment and Quality Appraisal tools, more than 500 individuals and organizations have downloaded them in English and French. As organizations begin to roll out these tools, we are working with them to support uptake and create versions for use at different levels. We now have a bilingual mobile friendly version of the CLD Assessment tool that works offline.

Grassroots Farmers go Digital!

During the recent UN Commission on Social Development, members learned of progress in rural Ghana as farmers regained access to new digital tools. The panel included representatives from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), Microsoft, Farmerline, The Hunger Project and Ghana's Directorate of Extension Services.

The Year for National Chapters

We've recently released the 2020 National Chapters Report on the amazing collective impact of our 15 national chapters (in green). Another 16 national chapters (in orange) are in formation. In 2021, we are committed to strengthening the ability of community-based organizations to play a key role in vaccine rollout and make sustainable progress across all the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.

Join our Expansion in Asia

In February, development practitioners from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Pakistan, the Philippines and Sri Lanka came together on Zoom to explore how the Movement might best support their aspirations. As a first step, we will hold a number of experience-sharing meetings, beginning on Wednesday Morning Asia time, March 17. Please send your Asian colleagues!
