AI for Climate Action Innovation Research Network
We invite expressions of interest from organisations to design and implement an innovation research network on AI for Climate Action. The goal of this initiative is to advance the responsible development and deployment of home grown AI innovations tackling pressing challenges emerging from climate change. This call has been developed in collaboration with Climate Change AI. The hub will be funded for up to 32 months with a budget of CAD 1.2 Million. Application submission deadline is April 5th 2021

AI for Climate Action Innovation Research Network Hub
We are currently accepting Expressions of Interest from organisations in based in low to lower middle income countries in Sub Saharan Africa to lead research on climate action through AI.
Scope of work
The selected Hub will design and implement an innovation research network of researchers and innovators applying responsible AI techniques to advance climate action in Africa and participate in and contribute to a global AI for 4Climate Action initiative.
The selected organization will also be responsible for the following non-exhaustive set of activities:
Set up and manage the network
Develop and run a call for proposals for climate action innovation research
Support network members
Provide technical and methodological assistance to sub guarantees as required
International collaboration and engagement
Contributing to advancing knowledge and policy dialogues
Contribute to the overall AI4D Africa program strategy
Funding & Duration
AI4D Africa will allocate up to CA$1.2 million to perform the duties of the Hub. The project can be up to 32 months in duration. For a consortium, IDRC will enter into a funding agreement only with the lead organisation.
Eligibility & Application
This call is open to individual organisations based in lower to lower middle income countries (LLMIC) in Sub-Saharan (SSA) countries, or a consortia of up to 3 organisations, with the lead organisation based in a LLMIC in SSA. It is not open to individuals or government ministries and agencies.
The expression of interest and all requested supporting material must be sent by email to AI4DAfrica@idrc.ca with a timestamp of no later than 23:59 EDT on April 5th 2021
