It appears that the colder weather may be behind us now, with patterns of warmer temperature and longer days ahead of us. It’s the perfect time to get out and do some Spring Cleaning. Most of our roadways in Gilmer County have been neglected due to restricted cleanups. However, the restrictions have been lifted and you can now go out (in families and small groups) to beautify our county again. If you are in need of orange bag, please contact Susan at the Road Department office, 706-635-4589.
Speaking of litter pickups, we have 2 new Adopt-A-Road groups that have recently joined.
Chrystal Chastain of Your Mountain Realtor and Alpas Vineyards on BigCreek Road. If you see them along the roadside, please Thank them for their efforts and support in keeping our county beautiful. We now have 66 AAR groups in Gilmer County If you know of any groups, families, or individuals that would like to adopt a road, please have them visit our website for information about the program. https://keepgilmerbeautiful.com

Gilmer County Great America Cleanup Saturday April 24, 2021
During the month of April, thousands of people will lend a hand to spruce up their streets, parks, neighborhoods and waterways. Keep Gilmer Beautiful has joined the Great American Cleanup campaign during the month of April. And it's coming to a neighborhood near YOU!
It is the Great American Cleanup, Gilmer County! The GAC is the nation's leading litter cleanup event, sponsored nationally by Keep America Beautiful! In Gilmer, we need help to enlist volunteers from news organizations, neighborhoods, schools, churches, businesses, civic organizations, fraternities, sororities, professional organizations and many more. We need hundreds and hundreds of volunteers!
It is so easy to lend a hand to help clean up neglected areas around town.
We are calling on volunteers to join the effort to clean-up their neighborhoods during the month of April. To help make this national initiative a local success, Keep Mobile Beautiful is providing each group with cleanup supplies including trash bags, litter grabbers, gloves and safety vests.

Tree Saplings from Georgia Forestry Commission
We received a limited number of red oak & dogwoods seedlings (3+feet high) this year, from Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation and Georgia Forestry Commission. As you may have seen in the Times Courier newspaper a few weeks ago, we reached out to our local schools and civic groups to allow them the opportunity for an education and beautification project within our local community. In our next newsletter we will share the stories and photos of the tree sapling plantings. We still have a small quantity of sapling available. If you are interested in picking a few for a beautification project, please contact Jim Harris, or Adopt-A-Road committee leader harrisbst100@gmail.com
