With Spring comes new adventures!

Spring Break Week is this month, and it will certainly be a week's worth of highlights!
There will be plenty of online programs to pass the time, AND the return of some in-house events to attend!
Check below for our full line up.

We're also hard at work getting ready for the Summer Reading Club 2021!
So prepare for that.
It's coming!

Monthly Calendar

Saturday, March 13, 10:30 AM - FB Premiere

Join Library staff as they perform easy experiments that you can do at home with your family.

The science behind the experiment or concept will be explained and we'll show you some resources the Library has on the subject.
This month’s theme: “The Deal With Density!”

Here's a list of supplies you can pre-gather to have on hand for the experiment:
• A tall clear container
• Water
• Food coloring
• Karo Syrup
• Vegetable Oil
• Spoon
• Various small objects of different weights (ex: candy pieces, legos, change, a cork, an eraser, whatever is on hand).

Gather those up, and find out what’s the big, heavy deal about density on March 13, at 10:30 AM on our FB Page.

Saturday, March 13, 12:00 PM - FB Premiere

Bring some beautiful light into your Spring when we show you how to make these easy Easter Egg light (or sun) catchers.
Best of all, you’ll fool everyone into thinking you made a stained glass masterpiece!

Catch the tutorial on our main FB page, Saturday, March 13 at 12:00 PM.

A limited amount of supply kits will be given out starting March 12.

March 15 - March 20
**Please note that Broughton Branch Library will be CLOSED all this week.

We’re pleased to bring you movie night from the socially distanced safety of the library parking lot!

New Age Cinema will set up the big screen on the Eastman Library Plaza right outside the library doors.
The parking lot will be marked and spaced for the total capacity of vehicles per safety guidelines.

When watching from your vehicle, tune to the designated FM radio station as posted to hear the film audio.

Should these spaces fill up, or if patrons would prefer to watch from outside, there will be limited, designated spaces within the plaza to sit, 10ft apart, for a group unit of 10 people max.
Some mats will be provided to sit on. Blankets and other mats are encouraged, but please do not bring chairs.
You must sit on the ground the entire time so not to obstruct view of the screen for those watching in the parking lot.

Limited quantities of free popcorn will be served. We recommend you to bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy!

Face masks/coverings are highly encouraged to be worn outside of your vehicles, in the popcorn line, or in the library, and 6ft social distance practice is recommended.

We will be showing The Croods: A New Age (PG)!
Movie starts at 7:30 PM. Thursday, March 18.
Free to attend and carpooling encouraged.

Please call (903) 237-1345 if you have any questions.

We will have 30 wristbands to pass out, first come first serve.
Each wristband is for 60 minutes of playtime.

Masks are highly encouraged. Use of the facility, and playing laser tag will be played per Laser X’s regulations and guidelines, so please make sure teens are aware!

Event will run 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM.
Friday, March 19.
Address: 2523 Judson Rd, Longview, TX 75605.

Please make sure teens have reliable transportation to and from the facility at the appropriate time.

A spring break tradition given an online makeover!

Afterwards, post a picture of their creations to the comments section of the video with a title of the creation, and child’s age.

They will be entered into a raffle drawing for an official LEGO set prize!
One set will be awarded to one winner in three different age brackets:
Ages 1 - 5, Ages 6-8, and Ages 9 - 12.

Saturday, March 20, FB LIVE, 10:30 AM

Christian and Leah are reviewing “You” by Caroline Kepnes. A hit thriller-suspense that you might have watched on Netflix this past year!

Hear their review and if it was better than the show.
Then listen for a "tasting" of other mystery novels and thriller books in our catalog to checkout.

Saturday, March 20 at 10:30 AM via FB Live on our main Facebook page.

Now offered all month!

Get some one-on-one help and a fresh set of eyes for your writing pieces!

Writer’s Workshop is now by appointment only, and conducted online (email, ZOOM & Google Meet).

Contact Christian at (903) 237-1350 during business hours to schedule an appointment, or email cpippins@longviewtexas.gov.

Let us be your personal shopper for your next set of library materials!

The reviews are in, and our patrons are loving Personal Librarian!
While we understand the fun that comes from browsing for your next read or movie, sometimes you might not have the time, or just don't want to sort through things to find a pick.

So, let us do the work for you!

Go to our webpage and fill out the online form with your criteria and preferences.
Library staff will curate up to 10 items for you that we think you'll like.
Please allow 5-7 days for us to get your selections ready.
We can pull suggestions for all ages!
Then those items will be put on hold for you, and you'll be notified your holds are ready for pickup!

Give it a try, and contact us if you have any questions!

Disclaimer: Please be advised, we will do our best to not include items with the subject matters you choose to omit.
But, given that every book is unique, we cannot guarantee that our recommendations will meet these requests 100%.

Book donations are not being accepted at this time, and any book sales have been tentatively cancelled.

We are actively looking into solutions for this.
In the meantime, please do not leave donation books at the back door or in the drop.
They will, unfortunately, be thrown away.

Please be on the lookout for further announcements!
