WINTER STORM URI

During last month’s Winter Storm Uri,  major impacts from ice and freezing temperatures were felt across Texas and beyond. With recent warmer temperatures, communities are seeking to rebuild from the damages and reflect on lessons learned for the future. We’d like to take this moment to acknowledge our maintenance team, our partners, and all those within the community who helped Central Texas weather this storm.

Thank you to our field crews, operations team, and local partners who worked around the clock to ensure safe travel.

Thank you to all the first responders and essential service crews for your dedicated service.

And thank YOU for limiting your travel and helping us keep the lanes clear for those who needed them.

183 TOLL ROAD COMPLETE

Last week, both the south-to-west and east-to-north flyovers connecting 183 Toll to SH 71 opened to the traveling public. The Mobility Authority is pleased to announce that this marks completion of the final tolled elements of the 183 South project.

Drivers now have a non-stop, signal free route to get to their destination without delay. The toll rate for a full-length trip on the 8-mile 183 Toll Road is $2.30 for drivers with an electronic tag like TxTag, TollTag or EZ-Tag. The cost to use the tolled direct connector flyover ramps between the 183 Toll Road and SH 71 will be an additional $0.59 with a tag. Drivers who do not wish to use the toll road or tolled flyovers can still use the new and improved non-tolled general-purpose lanes of US 183. Please visit our website for more information about 183 Toll.

Drivers should note that there will still be some roadway construction and other project elements to complete over the next several months. Construction updates will continue to be posted on the 183 South Project website as the project comes to a close.

183 NORTH MOBILITY PROJECT
CONTRACT AWARDED

The Mobility Authority’s Board of Directors has awarded a contract for the design and construction of the 183 North Mobility Project to Great Hill Constructors. Great Hills Constructors is a joint venture comprised of two experienced design-build firms: Archer Western Construction, LLC and Sundt Construction, Inc. Aimed at managing congestion, as well as improving transit reliability and emergency response times, the project is now expected to move into the final design and construction phase.

The 183 North Mobility Project encompasses the 9-mile section of US 183 between SH 45 North and Loop 1 (MoPac), a critical corridor in our regional transportation network. An Environmental Study led to the approval of a plan to add two express lanes in each direction, a fourth general-purpose lane where only three exist today, and express lane direct connectors to and from southbound MoPac. The project also includes operational improvements for the transition to MoPac, in addition to new shared use paths, sidewalks, and cross-street connections for bicyclists/pedestrians.

The project will be financed by the Mobility Authority using available and flexible funding mechanisms such as the sale of toll revenue bonds. Roadway construction is expected to begin later this year. For more information, visit 183North.com.
