March Is Here with Lots of Virtual Events

It's that time of year when Irish music is played and everything Irish is celebrated, but because of the pandemic, most of the events will be virtual.  TIMES is participating in a number of activities that we hope you'll consider.

TIMES Workshops at NTIF
We'd like to invite you to this year's virtual workshops for the North Texas Irish Festival. All workshops are $25 and will last one hour via Zoom. You can register at WORKSHOPS. Further instructions regarding Zoom links, etc. are provided on the registration page. Please join us for an hour with some of the best in Irish music. We hope to see you there!  Here is the schedule and our workshop presenters:

12-1 pm CST -- Bodhran with Jim Higgins
2-3 pm CST -- Guitar with Tommy O'Sullivan
3-4 pm CST -- Advanced Fiddle with Mairead Ni Mhaonaigh
4-5 pm CST -- Strong Intermediate & Advanced Fiddle with Brian Conway

**Please note that workshops are live events only and will NOT be recorded for later viewing.
Tunes for the TIMES Sessions Every Monday Night
We have created a virtual session via Zoom that is held every Monday evening from 7-9 p.m. (CST) and  features four session leaders playing popular Irish tunes that attendees play along while muted.  On the last Monday of the month, we invite special guest leaders who are usually former instructors of the O’Flaherty Irish Music Retreat and other master players.

For all of the details, go to SESSIONS.  These sessions are open to all levels and are a good way to keep playing music and keep connected with others who love Irish music.

O'Flaherty Retreat News
The teaching lineup for this year's O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat will be announced this weekend.  Look for our email soon that will give you more details.  The plan is to have an in-person event but abide by any CDC and health agency guidelines at that time.  It will be good to be back together again.
The North Texas Irish Festival Goes Virtual this Saturday, March 6th
One of the oldest running and premiere Irish festivals in the country will be held this Saturday with six channels of music, dance and cultural activities.  The fun begins at noon and goes until 9:30 p.m. and features a great lineup of bands, dance schools, vendors, sessions, workshops and much more.

For all of the details, go to FESTIVAL.  Here is the SCHEDULE.  Admission cost is by donation with those giving $40 or more able to access the "NTIF Goes to Ireland" channel.

In support of the festival, TIMES has organized instrument workshops (see left) and sessions (see below).  Refer to the schedule for times and location.
TIMES Session at NTIF
As is our tradition. TIMES will host a session at the festival from 5-6 p.m. (CST) on Saturday.  The session will be held on Zoom and here is the LINK. There is no charge for it, and the session is open to all levels.  As one player plays a set of tunes, the other players will be muted and play along.  Here are some recommended Zoom SETTINGS to get optimal sound.
Songs for the TIMES Sessions
We are happy to announce that we have organized song sessions for those who love to sing Irish and Scottish songs on the second and fourth Sundays of every month from 7-9 p.m. (CST) hosted by Allison Johnson and Matt Cook. The second Sunday sessions will be a mix of sing along with the session leaders while muted and a song circle where attendees take turns leading.  The fourth Sunday sessions are guest led and are sing along.  Lyrics will be provided.  For more details, go to SONGS
We are excited to be airing at the virtual North Texas Irish Festival the documentary that was made about the making of last year's virtual O'Flaherty Irish Music Retreat.  You can view it at 3 p.m. on the Tradition Channel this Saturday.  The video features interviews with instructors and organizers includes some wonderful performances.
