February 2021, Issue 6

Welcome to the sixth issue of Mingalabar for the 2020/21 academic year. It has been a challenging couple of months for us all and our tenacity during these times is inspiring.  In the following we will share with you the wonderful STEM day our primary school enjoyed and remind you of some up coming activities.

Message from Michael Deveney
I continue to be impressed by the engagement and diligence of our students, and the commitment shown by you and our teachers to support them; all this despite all the difficulties and challenges in the current climate.

In this short edition of Mingalabar, we want to share with you the output of our Primary STEM day, and remind you of upcoming events and activities.

I hope you have been able to use this week off to take some 'downtime' and are able to join in with the family wellbeing activities shown below.

Best wishes,
Michael Deveney

Each week our youngest students come together to share an activity.  Here you can see how well they did with origami.

Update from the Ecoclub

Last week, our Primary Eco Councillors came together to brainstorm ideas and start planning the next Primary Eco Council Challenge.

After our first meeting, they have enthusiastically decided to introduce an Eco-themed 'Eco-tracker' with fun and sustainable activities that students can participate in over the course of the term. The idea is that the more activities you are able to do and tick off, the more chances you will get at winning house points, certificates, and other rewards!

Our aim is to reignite and inspire a sense of wonder and care for our planet and the community that we live in by actively taking part in activities that contribute to a healthier and greener world.

Wellness - special day on 1 March and a week of fun-filled activities from 8 March

As there is a public holiday on the 2 March we are giving the BSY community a wellbeing break from the virtual classroom on 1 MarchYou may choose to engage in some of the wellness activities we have suggested in the link below.

The Five Ways to Wellbeing are five simple things we can do as part of our daily lives at work and at home to build resilience, boost our wellbeing, and lower our risk of developing mental health problems.

Here are some ideas to engage in as a family,  by being active, by giving, by connecting, by taking notice, by learning. The activities are split into EYFS/PRIMARY and SECONDARY sections to make it easy to find the right activity for your family. There are also activities across sections that can apply to all. Feel free to print the activities if you wish. We have also shared a list of films that you may wish to enjoy together. We sincerely hope you have a great day and would be delighted for you to share your stories, with pictures and/or video with us.

This is a perfect way to prepare for the BSY wellness week!
