The Haven is lucky to have such amazing volunteers like you! Although volunteer opportunities are currently limited, folks have been amazing by donating much-needed items and money to support our work.
The students at St. Margaret's School worked on craft kits to be used by children in our shelter. Deanna Lavery, our Child & Family Resilience Coordinator, has in response to Covid concerns replaced in person activity sessions for children with regular YouTube videos with hands on activities. They are called Hearts and Crafts and the children can follow along with video. The kits assembled by the students were distributed to the children to use while watching the videos. The students had a great time assembling the kits, and the children at our shelter enjoyed being able to do the activities. The video that these kits were used for can be found below!
The National Honor Society (NHS) students of Essex High School worked together to host a drive for The Haven. They blew their goal of collecting 300 items out of the water and collected almost 500 much needed items. The Haven would like to thank everyone who participated and donated to this drive, especially the Richards Family and Ms. Pam Floyd for their generous contributions and to Ms. Maddie Carson for coordinating this project.

The Haven looks forward to working with the NHS students of Essex High School in the future!
Last month's Volunteer Spotlight Post featured the wonderful Bonita Russell. She has continuously cooked meals for the residents at our shelter and has donated many items to our organization. The Haven is so lucky to have such great volunteers like Bonita!
Hearts & Crafts with The Haven Episode 4
In response to COVID concerns, Deanna Lavery, our Child and Family Resilience Coordinator, replaced in-person activity sessions for children with regular YouTube videos featuring hands-on activities. She recently uploaded  the fourth episode of Hearts and Crafts. This time, the activity is a mirror to remind us of our inner and outer beauty! Click here or watch the video above to learn more about how you can do this activity with your loved ones.

Did you know that sexual violence is on the rise in Virginia as a direct result of the pandemic? The Haven is asking you to take this simple action to alert our legislators to the need for funding to replace the federal funding The Haven and programs like ours across the state used to provide sexual violence prevention programs. You can contact your local legislator to urge them to fund prevention here.
