1.  The application period for the 2021 AARP Community Challenge is now open! The AARP Community Challenge provides small grants to fund quick-action projects that can help communities become more livable for people of all ages. Applications are accepted for projects to improve public spaces, housing, transportation, civic engagement, coronavirus recovery, diversity and inclusion, and more. The program is open to the following types of programs:
- 501(C)(3), 501(C)(4) and 501(c)(6) nonprofits 
- Government entities
- Other types of organizations will be considered on a case-by-case basis

2.  Are you working on a long-term project? Then you know the challenges of remaining committed, of facing the inevitable questions of purpose and worth, the need for continuous inspiration and ability to tap into your creative process.  Emerald Mountain Sanctuary in Highland County is thrilled to announce the 2021 Creative Project Coaching workshop, Wild Ember Sparking. This monthly workshop series runs from March through October and assists you in getting your creative project started and supports your ongoing project. 3.  Businesses in Highland County (and surrounding regions), are you looking for opportunities to learn how to take your business to the next level? Check out the S2V program offered by our friends at the Staunton Creative Community Fund.  Learn to address the riskiest parts of your business model with flexible one-on-one coaching during S2V's 8-week sprint. Gain valuable insight from our mentorship program and continue the learning and support by joining a diverse community of entrepreneurs and resource providers through our alumni network and ongoing programming.  S2V is offered to participants at no charge and without equity requirements. 4.  Are you a Highland County VA resident? Could you use some help with your pets? With a generous grant from the Little Swiss Fund of The Community Foundation of Harrisonburg & Rockingham County, the Highland County Humane Society can help! Their pet retention services include pet food, litter, supplies, and parasite control. They also provide FREE spay/neuter and a free lift to the clinic. 6.  Virginia Farm Bureau's Real Virginia television program will feature Highland County producers on Saturday, March 6th! RFD-TV Voices of Agriculture is on Dish TV Channel 231 and DirecTV channel 379, and it airs the first Saturday of the month at 5:00 pm. The episode will also be available on their Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/RealVaSocial) and YouTube (www.youtube.com/user/VirginiaFarmBureau) channels this Friday, February 26th!
