Hi, all, and happy Monday!

Hope you had a great weekend, and welcome to all of my new subscribers! What we do here is: we try not to worry about tomorrow. Instead, we do what we can TODAY to help rebuild our ailing democracy, one phone call, one email, one Resistbot at a time.

We chop wood. We carry water. Then we go enjoy this precious life we've been given.

So let's do that now.

Call Your Senators
(find yours here)
Hi, I'm a constituent calling for a couple of reasons today:

First, I strongly support the confirmation of Merrick Garland for Attorney General, Xavier Becerra for DHHS, and Deb Haaland for Department of Interior. All are critical seats that were formerly filled by deeply corrupt and overly partisan individuals. As far as Haaland goes, it is high time that a Native American become the steward of federal lands. Please push for her hearing to happen soon. Thanks.

Also, please urge the Senator to vote YES on the 1.9 trillion dollar pandemic relief package, the American Rescue Plan. It's the right size and scope to begin lifting us out of our pandemic troubles. Thanks.

Hi, I'm a constituent calling for a couple of reasons today:

First,
please urge the representative to vote YES on the $1.9 trillion pandemic relief package, the American Rescue Plan, which is the right size and scope to begin lifting us out of the pandemic.

Second, I urge the Congressmember to support H.R. 40, which would establish a commission to examine the institution of slavery and its impact and make recommendations for reparations to Congress. Thanks. [H/T]

Extra Credit
Have you been following the despicable actions by Kroger, the nation's largest grocery store chain (it has dozens of subsidiaries, at least one of which is in your neighborhood)? It's closing stores in cities that want them to pay their workers an additional $2-$4 an hour hazard pay, despite nearly tripling their profits last year. Read Judd Legum's article about it here (or watch my TikTok here.)

Then let's call Kroger at 1-800-576-4377 or email them here and say:

I'm writing/calling because I've heard that your company is closing stores in Seattle and Long Beach because those cities have asked Kroger to pay from $2 to $4 an hour extra in hazard pay to their employees. These folks are essentially frontline workers, yet you don't want to do it. You say you can't afford to, but we know that, due to the pandemic, Kroger literally doubled its profits last year. We know you just gave $147 million to investors, and we also know you recently did a billion-dollar stock buyback. We know your CEO made 21M in 2019 alone. But you can't pay your store employees, who are literally risking their lives to go to work, a couple dollars more an hour?

This is sickening. I will go out of my way to avoid shopping at your subsidiaries, which in my neighborhood includes [insert subsidiary from this list]. And I will continue doing that until you make this right with your employees and stop punishing cities who try to help them by closing stores.

Let's keep demanding that banks like Chase, Citi, Bank of America and TD Bank STOP financing Line 3. Last week we made the calls; today we send the email!

This is a direct email to CEOs to demand that they stop funding Line 3. Your email will go directly to the inboxes of CEOs, executives, and Board members of the banks. Go here to send.

[to all 3 reps] [H/T]

Hi, I'm writing as a constituent to express my support for comprehensive immigration reform. A good first step would be for Congress to enact the Biden-Harris U.S. Citizenship Act of 2021.

Specifically, I support policies that:

  • provide a pathway to citizenship in 8 years or less for nearly 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the U.S

  • prohibit religious-based discrimination and limit presidential authority to issue future immigration bans

  • expand access to Diversity Visas, refugee admissions, and other humanitarian protections

  • improve the asylum system and reduces immigration court backlogs

  • expand family case management programs

  • address the root cause of Central America migration

  • restore the Central American Minors program to reunite migrant children with U.S. relatives

  • provide resources to manage the southern border with technology and infrastructure instead of an ineffective wall.

It's clear we must change our immigration system to a more humane and civil practice that puts human lives first. Thanks!

OK.
