Monthly Ministry and Education Leaders Gathering Invitation

PNCC is hosting our FIRST Monthly Leaders Gathering

Dear <<First Name>>,
You are invited to join us tomorrow-- Wednesday, February 24th from 9-10am to meet other leaders in churches and education from across NC as we work to support Public Schools and NC's children. These are open meetings, so please feel free to invite friends and colleagues to join us as well!

Here is the meeting link: https://meet.google.com/vxr-mhig-xqk  (If you need to join late or leave early, you are welcome to do so!)

Here's our agenda:
  • Brief Introductions from those on the call
  • Announcements & Upcoming Events
  • Overview of NC Education Landscape
  • Next steps/Next Meeting Dates (we plan for this to be a monthly call that you can join as you are able!)
This meeting is our start to monthly leaders meetings from around the state that PNCC will be hosting. These monthly gatherings are geared to clergy and lay leaders who are interested in supporting public schools, and school leaders interested in the intersections of faith and advocacy for public schools. You might be leading a group of volunteers with schools or chair the social justice committee or be clergy wanting to learn more, etc. You might also be church members who is an educator or want to start a group working on school support in your congregation. All are welcome!

Our hope is that this conversation builds a network of interested participants across the state in conversations and collective action to bring systemic change and justice for public schools, especially in more fully funding public education and creating equitable schools for all of NC's children. These are starting as informal meetings to increase the conversation around public schools as a public good and build up leaders to keep reaching out across the state.

It will be a time for introductions, a bit of teaching or discussion about current situations/policies/bills that are coming up in the Legislature, and a chance to support one another in the work. We know lots of people are doing this good, important work of supporting our local schools in various counties and schools, and we need people connecting to make a bigger impact, be encouraged, share ideas, etc.

Join us! Here is the meeting link: https://meet.google.com/vxr-mhig-xqk

Shalom,
The Rev. Suzanne Parker Miller, Executive Director

Resource Alert

Authors and Podcasters Jack Schneider and Jennifer Berkshire published "A Wolf At The Schoolhouse Door: The Dismantling of Public Education and The Future Of Schools" this past fall. It describes the efforts over the last decades to dismantle education across the nation. What's happening in other states is also happening in NC, so it's well worth reading to understand the national dynamics at play to undermine public education as a public good.

Listen to their podcast about the book for a good preview: https://soundcloud.com/haveyouheardpodcast/wolf

Our partners at Pastors for Texas Children recently hosted the authors for a discussion via Zoom. It's a great discussion! Watch it here.
