Senior Competition News

What an awesome effort by all the youth/senior athletes that competed at Mullaloo on Sunday. With flat conditions, everyone made Sorrento proud with their efforts, a few special mentions, to Jackson Symonds and John Hackett and our beachies who were out in numbers on the track and the flag arena, Taking all before them with lots of 1st places and top 3 finishes. The water athletes did a fantastic job and
Sam Brigden who got 1st place in the U/15 female board race, Great effort to the athletes that backed up after being involved in the Rotto swim the day before, to our teams that really had there the first crack at a carnival, you were all awesome.

To some of our first time competing athletes, WOW you guys were all awesome in having a go and to our Board captain Matt Rowe, welcome back, good to see you out there blowing out the cobwebs, You should all be proud of your efforts, well done to our march past team who looked a picture of beauty as usual.

A massive well done to the Sorrento R&R team, it was amazing to see so many green caps representing us in the first R&R carnival for 2021 with a great turn out and some fantastic results, and good learning session for the young and not so young teams. Thanks again to all the officials and to our leader (Darryl) for bringing the treats for the kids and keeping the officials watered and fed. Thanks to the coaches, kids and parents for your ongoing support. Special thanks to Muzz for setting up and down of the arena.

A massive congrats to Michael Booth who raced over east in the Summer of Surf Round 3 over the weekend. He came 5th in the Open Ski Race which is an amazing job! We are so proud!!

Youth News

Sunday Session
27 Youth turned up with 18 of those joining in for the Youth Swim. What happened to the other 9!?! For those that didn’t don’t forget to get ready as we are looking to get into the water by 8.45am so that the Ski Development Group can get underway by 9.00am and we can work on our surf / beach / patrol skills. A huge thank you to our water safety who filled in for the age managers that were at the Mullaloo Carnival. This Sunday session kicked off focussing on Teams (2p Team wading / dolphin / swim rounders; 1 km team relay) and then Darren took the surf crew on an endurance paddle, which was an especially good effort by Darren having done the Rotto swim the day before, sorry to do that to you Darren! Beachies worked on Flags starts. Thanks to all the youth that got the ski’s, boards and gear washed down and stowed away.

Next week (28th Feb) is a regular Sunday Session for all. Please be there for check in by 8.30am as we will want to be in the water for the youth swim at 8.45am! Conditions are looking good for both sand and surf. It will also be used as a chance to run over any questions you have about YOUTH CLUB CHAMPS on Monday 1st March. We want to see ALL youth that are available down on the Monday to have a bit of fun. It’s a great time to gauge your improvement and just to hang out with your team mates. MORE to come on this.

By the way, I think that we do need to see McKenzie signed in for Youth Sprints at club champs, given her Shark Alarm effort on the weekend. Thank you also to all the youth that had Sorrento Patrols on the weekend and helped out the Rotto Swim and Abalone Patrol.

Have a great week all. Good luck with exams and study and we will see you on the Beach at the Youth Flag Sunday!!

Woodside Nippers

How about that for a jam-packed weekend for our Nippers at Sorrento!

We had such  a great turn out for our inaugural 1km run on Friday night thanks to all our parent helpers who help set up the course under Burchy’s direction and our registration of  Nippers which was done under Kerry’s guidance. It was a super event

Our R&R teams then flew the flag on Saturday morning on our own beach in the R&R carnival. It was so good for the teams to get a tune up before State Championships! Super work to you all thanks to all our coaches lead by Theresa and to Muzz for coordinating the set up.

On Sunday we had the Little Nippers carnival at Mullaloo, it was a hive of activity and it was awesome to see so many of our green caps having a crack and more importantly smiling and having a ball.

Thank you to Garry and Roger for running the event, It’s great to have you involved. I’d like to thank all our wonderful parents that jumped in  to assist in water safety at short notice and to our officials and covid marshall, without you the event doesn’t happen.

The Board Rescue State qualifiers was held on Sunday at Mullaloo as well. Again to have so many teams competing for mighty Sorrento makes me feel as a club we are really embracing being part of the team. To get so many teams qualifying it shows we are on the right path too!

Thank you to Muzz for loading the Junior board trailer and Chris for bringing the trailer down and back to the club and as usual thanks to the parents that came back and unloaded the trailer. You are all superstars!

Well done to all the Under 10's that were able to complete round 3 of their Club Champs on the weekend. It’s always great to have so many Nippers down on Sunday morning's being active and learning surf lifesaving.

This weekend we have U11, U12 and U13 compete in the final round 3 of the Club Champs. Good luck to everyone and remember it about having a crack and doing your personal best and of course enjoying the experience
