City Central is co-hosting an online panel this month about Dutch diversity policy, the needs of immigrants in the Netherlands, and the importance of local community in making us all feel truly welcome.
This English-language event is for everyone, and we would love to see you there! We know you have thoughts on it – you can submit questions when you sign up to attend.
We also have plenty of great (digital) event recommendations for you, but our main piece of advice? Take comfort that spring is right around the corner – the crocuses are blooming, so more long city walks and meandering bike rides through the province are on the way, and life is starting to open up again for all of us.
Legislating an Inclusive Society
10 March
The Netherlands has become a full-fledged migration society, in the words of recent reports by the Dutch Scientific Council. But what does that mean from a policy perspective? How can local and national governments best serve a dynamic and diverse population?
RUG law faculty study organisations Nexus, Elsa, JVF and City Central are pleased to welcome University of Utrecht professor and Dutch Scientific Council member Mark Bovens, RUG assistant professor Aikaterini Tsampi, and Judith Frens, an International and European Law student, for a panel discussion about embracing diversity and combating discrimination.
Sign up now to attend the discussion, and submit your own questions for the panelists!
March's Book Club pick is "Half of a Yellow Sun" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adiche, a historical fiction novel set during the Nigerian Civil War in the late '60s.
It's a powerful story that movingly explores the themes of hope for a new nation, the devastation of betrayal, and the ambiguity of the aftermath of war.
If this event is sold out, don’t worry – you can still participate! Just join our Facebook Groupand let us know you would like to attend this month’s discussion.
