UCI Sustainability Winter 2021 Week 8 Digest

Hello!

My name is Akif Khan and I'm a Carbon Neutrality Fellow at UCI this year. I wanted to let you know that applications are now open for the Spring Student Leadership Institute for Climate Resilience (SLICR) special topics: COVID-19 and Health Equity!

Explore the intersections of COVID19, community resilience, and sustainability, including personal resilience, health equity, social justice, issue framing, organizing and activism tools, and more.

Build community with projects including weekly readings, in class and online discussion, and a writing component.

I'll be one of the mentors for this program, and I'd love to have you in class with us in the Spring! The application deadline has been extended until March 1st. Apply here.

CALPIRG Students

CALPIRG Students is a student run org started at the UCs in the 70s to protect the environment, make college affordable, and help students vote.

Recently, they won the Save the Bees Campaign! UCI is now a Bee Friendly Certified Campus, thanks to the work of student activists and support they’ve built with students, faculty, and administration . This is an important win because bees pollinate most of the food we eat - from apples to strawberries to chocolate!

Join their virtual celebration taking place on Tuesday, March 2, from 5 to 6 PM. The event will include educational talks, interactive presentations, and open discussions about environmental activism. RSVP here to receive more details.
