ANACHRONY CHESS PRINT-AND-PLAY♟️
|
|
Since last year, our team has been obsessing over Netflix's The Queen's Gambit, so much so that it actually inspired our Creative & Art Director, Richard Amann to design an Anachrony & Chess hybrid game. It started as a fun project for internal "use", but we enjoyed it so much that we decided to pour more graphic design and rules editing effort into it and present it to you as a little surprise!
The game tells the story of one Path’s conquest of another, using Anachrony components and a print-and-play game board. Just like in chess, your goal is to capture your opponent’s “King,” which in this game is represented by the Player banner - in other words, the Path’s Flag.
In this chess variant, the playing pieces will be your Exosuits, and the Workers operating them will determine how they can move. Recruit the respective Workers that can operate a Knight, a Rook, a Bishop, or a Queen from the Market, take the bonus resource (like a Water or Energy core), and make your move!
Whether you like chess in general or not, we would be happy to hear about your gameplay experiences with Anachrony Chess, so play session reports (and the Queen's Gambit-inspired photos) are more than welcome on BGG. We'll go first. 😉

PRODUCTION & DEVELOPMENT NEWS
Our main project for the month was still Perseverance - Castaway Chronicles. Things have been a little slow on the production side as our manufacturer has closed down for a month for the Chinese New Year celebrations and the team is just starting to return. We're planning to post a new project update next week with a few pictures and the final pledge manager closing date as the submission deadline for the final production quantities is approaching. As for the games' development and pre-production preparations, our team has been working on the solo mode rulebook and the Art & Storybook, and you can expect to see a little sneak peek next month!
We've also been quite busy with the sale of the leftover Infinity Box stock - while the European webshop is almost completely sold out, we still have a few Infinity products in limited quantities in the US & Canada webshop!

In this new segment of our monthly newsletter, we'd like to give you a little insight into the life of our team - what we played that month, hot topics, team announcements, or just highlights from our office life. This month, Robin, our lead playtester and Frici, our project manager will talk about some of their recent gaming experiences!

Robin Hegedüs & Szöszi, the Beagle
"Robin, you have so much time to actually play games" is a common phrase in our office, but I think this perception is rooted in the fact that I really like to try new things, new games every week. So here are my recent experiences: I played Embers of Memory, which was a gift to my girlfriend, a novel-based small box game from Osprey Games. It captures a specific part of the fantasy saga and we are playing cooperatively in the mind of the protagonist throughout several games.
|
|
I also played CloudAge with a friend, it is quite easy-going compared to the other games of Pfister, and we really loved the idea of cloud sleeves in the game, which cover the main part of the city cards, but you can guess what the city will be like when we land on it.
Finally, I tried Calico on Tabletopia with my little brother who is in home-school prison now. What an audacious game! It shows cute pillows and kitties, but the gameplay is actually a brain-burning puzzle and nothing from skein of slapping. Friends, family, games - they strengthen perseverance!

Frici Schőberl
I've been playing the digital version of Gloomhaven on Steam with my father and my brother. Though I played the tabletop version a few times when it came out, I haven't had the chance to get back to it since then. After Covid hit, I started to look for and try new multiplayer videogames so I can stay connected with my friends and especially with my family. Since my father is a bit slow in the virtual world, I wanted our game to be turn-based and also cooperative with a progression we can continue with each game session. So Gloomhaven seemed to be a perfect choice and we've been playing it every 2 or 3 nights for the last 3 weeks now. It still has some errors and bugs, and the connection is often unstable as it's still being developed, but it's a good game and a good alternative to hang around and have fun with my loved ones.

That's it for this month! We hope you've enjoyed reading a bit from our team, and you'll have fun testing the Anachrony Chess! We'll be back next month with the Perseverance pledge manager closing date and restock news about Trickerion!
With warm regards,
The Mindclash Games Team
