HEALTH EQUITY PROGRAMMING 

Public Health on Call's two-part episode podcast, "Considering Ethics and Equity in Vaccinating a Nation," looks at vaccine distribution and choosing who is and isn't eligible. The Center for Health Equity's Learning Library Collection can help you locate resources for communicating concepts of health equity, from factsheets to brochures and online courses.

Mark May 4 - 7, 2021 for the Urban Health Institute's Social Determinants of Health Virtual Symposium. The Institute's mission is to advance health and health equity in Baltimore, but its community building approach is universal. Join researchers, political and religious leaders, community members, faculty, and students from across Baltimore to discuss improving our communities' health and well-being.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT

Tanjala Purnell, PhD '12, MPH 

Tanjala is associate director of the Johns Hopkins Urban Health Institute, where she leads collaborative efforts between communities and public and private health care delivery systems. As an epidemiologist, her research focuses on identifying patient-centered and community-engaged solutions to address health and healthcare disparities for people living with chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and hypertension. A Mississippi Delta native, she is well aware of issues of medical mistrust and vaccine uncertainty among Black Americans. She was recently interviewed on Morgan State University's "Today with Dr. Kaye" WEAA radio program about vaccine hesitation conversations, and participated in the School's Spotlight series, "Your Role in Pursuing Health Equity."
